3  A noun is a person, place, thing or idea.  An adjective describes a noun. It tells how many, which one and what kind.  A pronoun takes the place of a noun.  A verb shows action or state of being.  An adverb describes verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. An adverb answers how, when, where, why and under what condition.  Conjunctions “hook” together words, phrases and/or clauses.  Prepositions are words that relate its object (the noun or pronoun) to another word in the sentence.  Interjections are words that show emotion; an exclamation

4 Examples:  Noun: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  Verb: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  Pronoun: She swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  Adjective: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  Adverb: The very brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  Conjunction: There were spectators and supporters who greeted the woman when she arrived at Key West.  Preposition: The woman survived through the difficult obstacles while swimming from Cuba to Florida.  Interjection: Wow! Diana Nyad, 64, became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida.
