4. Verb A word that can express actions, events, or states of being – can be a main actionverb MV or V, can be a helping verb HV, or a linking verb LV Example: Leslie ran to the stop sign so she doesn’t miss the bus.

5. Adjective a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun – It answers the questions: which one? what kind? how many? Example: The dress you bought today is beautiful.

6. Adverb a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb by answering the questions: where? when? how? to what extent? Usually ends in LY Example: I ran quickly to the bus stop.

7. preposition connects nouns, pronouns, and other phrases to other words in the sentence A prepositional phrase can describe (adjective phrase) or (adverb phrase) Example: My mom will return (from the vet).
