As a member of the VT State Council of SHRM you have some great benefits you probably were unaware of We are the conduit (through CLAs – Core Leadership Areas) from SHRM National to the Chapters – providing information and statistics on our state A great best practices resource for all chapters

What is volunteerism? Definitions: – one who enters into or offers himself for any service of his own free will – individuals who reach out beyond the confines of their paid employment and of their normal responsibilities to contribute time and service to a not-for-profit cause in the belief that their activity is beneficial to others as well as satisfying to themselves – volunteerism is any activity that is relatively uncoerced, intended to help, conducted without primary or immediate thought of financial gain, and is work, not play

Why do I volunteer? Contribute to the HR profession Share my expertise Gain experience and develop valuable skills Meet people/network Enhance professional reputation Sense of achievement To laugh, a lot..

What Skills Might YOU Develop? Leadership Financial Expertise Bottom-line Sensitivity Project Management Influencing Public Speaking Delivering Presentations Organizational Skills Conflict Resolution Managing People

What do employers gain? Relevant Skill Development Increase in Loyalty Increase in Confidence Level Expanded Professional Network WHAT ELSE? Does your employer GET IT?
