WHAT IS A DRUG? A DRUG IS ANY SUBSTANCE, BESIDES FOOD, TAKEN INTO THE BODY THAT CHANGES THE WAY YOU THINK, FEEL, OR ACT.

PRESCRIPTION DRUGS THIS IS A DRUG GIVEN TO YOU BY A DOCTOR FOR A MEDICAL REASON. THIS IS FOR YOU ONLY. IT SHOULD BE TAKEN AS DIRECTED BY THE DOCTOR.

OVER THE COUNTER DRUG THIS IS A DRUG THAT CAN BE BOUGHT AT ANY STORE. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A PRESCRIPTION FOR IT. THE DIRECTIONS ARE LISTED ON THE BACK. SOME EXAMPLES ARE IBUPROFEN AND COUGH MEDICINE.

WHAT IS A LEGAL DRUG? A LEGAL DRUG IS ONE YOU CAN PURCHASE LEGALLY. IT CAN BE PRESCRIBED TO YOU OR BOUGHT OVER THE COUNTER. EXAMPLES INCLUDE TYLENOL AND TOBACCO.

WHAT IS CAFFEINE? CAFFEINE IS FOUND IN COFFEE, TEA, AND SOFT DRINKS. IT IS KNOWN AS A STIMULANT BECAUSE IT INCREASES THE FUNCTIONS OF THE BODY.

TOBACCO PRODUCTS IN ALABAMA, YOU CAN PURCHASE AND USE TOBACCO PRODUCTS AT THE AGE OF 18. THESE PRODUCTS CAN BE PURCHASED AT MOST STORES. EXAMPLES OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS INCLUDE CHEWING TOBACCO, PIPES, CIGARETTES, AND CIGARS. IT IS A STIMULANTS AND SPEEDS UP THE BODY’S FUNCTIONS. OVER 3000 CHEMICALS ARE FOUND IN CIGARETTES. TOBACCO USE CAN LEAD TO LUNG, MOUTH, AND HEART DISEASES, CIRCULATION PROBLEMS, AND MUCH MORE.

WHAT IS ALCOHOL? ALCOHOL IS A LEGAL DRUG FOR ADULTS 21 AND OVER. IT IS FOUND IN BEER, WHISKEY, WINE, AND MIXED DRINKS. IT IS KNOWN AS A DEPRESSANT BECAUSE IT SLOWS DOWN THE BODY’S PROCESSES. IT CAUSES SLURRED SPEECH, LOSS OF BALANCE, SLOW REFLEXES, AND IMPAIRED VISION. IT IS ONE OF THE OLDEST DRUGS AND MOST COMMONLY USED.

WHAT IS AN ILLEGAL DRUG? AN ILLEGAL DRUG IS ONE THAT CANNOT BE SOLD OR BOUGHT LEGALLY. SOME EXAMPLES ARE METH AND HEROINE.

WHAT IS MARIJUANA? IT IS A PLANT THAT IS DRIED AND SMOKED OR CHEWED TO GET HIGH. IT IS ILLEGAL IN ALABAMA TO BUY, SELL, OR USE IT. IT CAUSES SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS AS TOBACCO, BUT MUCH WORSE. IT IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND CAUSES MEMORY LOSS, ANXIETY, INABILITY TO FOCUS, AND MUCH MORE.

WHAT IS METH? METH IS THE SHORT NAME FOR METHAMPHETAMINE. IT IS A STIMULANT, DEPRESSANT, AND HALLUCINOGEN. IT IS MAN MADE FROM MANY PRODUCTS SUCH AS BATTERY ACID, COLD MEDICINE, AND RAT POISON. IT CAUSES WEIGHT LOSS, VOMITING, PANIC ATTACKS, SEIZURES, AND MUCH MORE. Meth mouth
