The Genova Smart City Association was created in November 2010, co-funded by the City of Genoa, University of Genoa and Enel. The goal of Association is to turn Genoa into a smart city. The Genoa Smart City Association is a fertile ecosystem, involving public bodies, business, academia and citizens working together in a comprehensive strategy to promote innovation and its concrete application in the real world, while thriving towards the shared vision, coherent with Europe 2020 targets, of a Smart City where people lead better lives. Genoa promoted the creation of an innovative involving governance methodology connecting the quadruple helix (Institutions, academia, business, civil society) with: citizens' needs political vision & strategic planning academia's creativity businesses’ marketing strategies job creation opportunities regulatory systems funding opportunities The Association counts over 90 members working together towards the common goal of making the city a fervent and productive ground where intelligence is applied in planning and actions in a collaborative and positive environment supported by stakeholders and networks.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY ACTION PLAN The Genoa’s SEAP was the first published on EU Commission website and it was praised for its quality. Date of formal approval: 5th August 2010 Overall CO 2 emission reduction target: 23% The city of Genova is committed to a 20% reduction of its CO2 emissions in 2020 compared to The SEAP of Genova is an ambitious and comprehensive plan in which plans and programmes in other relevant areas have been integrated. A large number of ambitious measures are planned in all recommended key sectors of activity, leading potentially to a 23,7 % reduction of the CO2 emissions
