Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) 2012

Why hasn’t the P.E.R.T. administration begun??? The FLDOE is finalizing test administration protocols with smaller counties piloting the test to work out some inconsistencies. Login procedures are being tested as the amount of time it takes to login is a big concern. Paper-pencil accommodated test are now under construction. The creation of a PERT score repository is underway.

When schools do begin testing: You will be able to assess students on a computer at any time during the school day and test until the last day of the school year.  It is recommended to begin testing your lower performing students first. Higher performing students may meet college- ready requirements with ACT or SAT.

What is P.E.R.T. ? The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) is Florida’s new computer-based common placement test. The test is used by all 28 Florida colleges to determine whether or not a student is ready for college credit courses in math, reading and writing. P.E.R.T. has been aligned with the Postsecondary Readiness Competencies (PRC’s) that Florida’s university faculty have identified as necessary for success in entry-level college credit coursework.

Who takes P.E.R.T. ? Current 11 th grade students must be tested if they meet the following criteria: Levels 2 or 3 on the Grade 10 FCAT Reading, and or Levels 2, 3, or 4 on the Grade 10 FCAT Math Special Diploma students for whom the IEP specifics that the FCAT is an appropriate assessment Department of Juvenile Justice students Charter School students Full time public Virtual School students

Is P.E.R.T. the only approved test? PERT, ACT, SAT and CPT are all FLDOE approved tests. FLDOE has made funds available to districts for administration of the PERT to students who meet the eligibility requirements. Students who have already met the college-ready cut score with ACT, SAT, CPT are not required to take the PERT.

What happens if a student does not meet college-readiness? Current eligible 11 th grade students who do not meet the state established college- ready cut scores on the PERT or another approved college entrance test in Reading, Writing, and/or Mathematics must be enrolled in postsecondary preparatory instruction in 12 th grade prior to graduation. What is the P.E.R.T. test format? P.E.R.T. is comprised of 25 operational questions and 5 additional field test questions adaptive for reading, writing and mathematics. P.E.R.T. is untimed. Average time to complete subtest:   Math 37 minutes   Reading 60 minutes   Writing33 minutes An on-screen calculator will appear for specific math items. The Math paper version test will have two separate sections – one for calculator use and another section where no calculators are allowed. How much does P.E.R.T. cost? State funds will cover the cost of the test units for 11 th grade students who meet eligibility at a cost of $0.94 per subject area. Who is the Site Manager/ Proctor?
