Welcome to the Tsunami Team!

What is ASD? ASD stands for “Academic Skills Development”, and will take place twice a week, at the end of the day on Mondays and Thursdays. You will have ASD with me for the duration of the year, but you may be pulled into different rooms if you are in need of extra help. ASD is used for HW completion, extra help, team activities, independent reading and a variety of other things necessary to complete outside of the regular classroom.

Forms In your packet, you will find several forms. The following need to be filled out and returned ASAP: Emergency card (check for accuracy and SIGN) Pink notification sheet Student/Parent Handbook and Bullying Policy sheet Field Trip Form

Supplies You should have all received a supply list for the Tsunami Team. Does anyone need one? Please try to have all supplies in school by the end of the week. Students may find it helpful to bring half of their binders tomorrow and the other half on Wednesday, to be left in their locker. The assignment notebook binder needs to come in TOMORROW!

Assignment Notebook Binder All Tsunami students will be given an assignment notebook, which must be used every day in all classes. We ask that the assignment notebook be kept in its own 1 ½ inch binder, with a plastic homework folder. This binder should also include the pencil pouches and other items as indicated on the supply list (see the assignment notebook section).

Homework! Homework will be given on a nightly basis and is expected to be turned in ON TIME. LMS policy states that an assignment turned in one day late will receive partial credit (per teacher discretion). Parents can monitor homework completion via the assignment notebook as well as the parent portal (X2).

Homework! If a student does not turn in a HW assignment on the day it is due, their Tsunami teacher will place a red “HW Not Turned in on Time” stamp in the assignment notebook on the spot in which the missing assignment was to have been written down. If your student has a “blank” or incomplete assignment notebook, you can visit the team webpage and view nightly HW assignments. X2 is also updated every 2 weeks!

Lunch Students can buy hot lunch or bring lunch from home. Just like in elementary school, you can put money on their card, either by sending a check or cash into school or by using the mySchoolbucks program found on the LMS website home page. It is STRONGLY recommended students bring a bag lunch the first few days of school!

Other Information: Please make sure your child knows their AM and PM bus number. We encourage all students to bring a CLEAR, REUSABLE water bottle with their name on it to school. Thursday is our first team day of the year! Dress to be outdoors and bring a healthy snack and water. Sneakers are required, lunch will be in the CAF as normal. Students will attend D period only.

Lockers! All students will be assigned a locker. We will do our absolute best to meet all students’ needs, but please be aware we only have a certain number of lockers. We ask that whatever locker your student is initially assigned, they do their best to make it work. Trust me…it will all work out!

Any Questions?
