Grades at Carlisle Middle School
CMS has a letter grade system that is outlined below. All grades at CMS are 80% summative and 20% formative. Summative is anything that is final learning on a concept. It could be tests or projects to show mastery on a given unit. Formative is practice. It could include homework, quizzes, in-class work, and smaller projects to check for understanding.

Grades at Carlisle Middle School

Report Cards at Carlisle Middle School
Report cards will be mailed out quarterly (every 9 weeks) for a total of 4 times. On that report card, you will see your child’s letter grade and a spot for the Employability Rubric.

Employability Rubric

Make-Up Policy Students have 2 days (per each day gone) to make up the work that they missed It is the responsibility of the student to communicate with their teachers to see what work/lessons/etc. they missed All planned absences should be communicated in advance with the office

Late Work Students can turn in late assignments, without penalty, until the end of that specific unit Students who are missing assignments are subject to before/after school sessions with their teachers, tutorial during WIN time, etc.

Extra Credit/Retakes Extra credit will not be given in the middle school. Teachers may add a bonus question that is related to the unit that shows exemplary skills. This bonus question will not count against any student, but will allow a student to potentially increase their grade on the assessment. Even though extra credit is not given, all students are able to correct/retake formative and summative assessments for 100% credit. Formative assessments must be corrected/retaken before the summative assessment of that unit.

Incomplete Grades If your child has not completed a formative or summative item for a grade, the teacher will input an “I” into the gradebook. This “I” represents an incomplete. Once an incomplete grade is given, you will no longer be able to see your child’s letter grade for that class on Infinite Campus until that assignment/project is completed. This is to help you as a parent know when your child has not turned something in.

WIN (Whatever I Need) WIN time is time embedded into the regular school day (except Wednesday). During this time, teachers have the opportunity to connect with students who may be struggling with a concept covered in class. Students are able to take advantage of this opportunity to learn and to stay current with the class. Students not needing extra assistance (it varies every week) rotate to various extension activities throughout the building. Students are notified of their WIN assignments every Wednesday morning during their advisory time. Adam’s slide
