What do you know about our Planet? (Write some on board)  Earth is the only planet on which water can exist in liquid form on the surface.  Earth is referred to as the BLUE PLANET. WHY?  Earth is 24,900 miles around the equator. How fast are we moving?  Earth travels through space at 66,700 miles per hour.  Earth is the only planet on which water can exist in liquid form on the surface.  Earth is referred to as the BLUE PLANET. Amazing Earth How far is it to the center of the Earth?  The distance from the surface of Earth to the center is about 3,963 miles (6,378 kilometers). Much of Earth is fluid. How thick is the crust that we live on?  The mostly solid skin of the planet is only 41 miles (66 kilometers) thick -- thinner than the skin of an apple, relatively speaking. Amazing Earth  What is the hottest place on Earth?  Count one wrong if you guessed Death Valley in California. True enough on many days. But El Azizia in Libya recorded a temperature of 136 degrees Fahrenheit (57.8 Celsius) on Sept. 13, the hottest ever measured. In Death Valley, it got up to 134 Fahrenheit on July 10,  What is the hottest place on Earth?  Count one wrong if you guessed Death Valley in California. True enough on many days. Amazing Earth  What two great American cities are destined to merge?  The San Andreas fault, which runs north- south, is slipping at a rate of about 2 inches (5 centimeters) per year, causing Los Angeles to move towards San Francisco. Scientists forecast LA will be a suburb of the City by the Bay in about 15 million years.  What two great American cities are destined to merge?  The San Andreas fault, which runs north- south, is slipping at a rate of about 2 inches (5 centimeters) per year, causing Los Angeles to move towards San Francisco. Grading A: % B: 80-90% C: 70-80% D: 60-70% = passing F: 0-60% = not passing (Give examples) Essentially, if you attend everyday, do what you are asked and turn in assignments when they are due, you should have no problem passing this class. However, if your overall grade ever drops to an F, you will be required to come in once a week (when?) for tutoring until you get back up to a passing grade.
