First Week of School MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFriday Labour Day NO SCHOOL Only JK students will come to school. Small groups of students will be invited with their parents to their classroom at a designated time to visit and meet the teacher and DECE. All SK students will come to school. Some JKs will come to school for the day. This will allow JKs to meet SKs and learn the rules and expectations. All SK students will come to school. The other JKs will come to school for the day. If your JK child comes to school on Wednesday, they will not attend on Thursday. All JK and SK students attend school. **You will receive a postcard in the mail indicating the time you will visit on Tuesday**

Bell Times and Entry School begins at 8:45am. You and your child should be ready at the side of the school in the kindergarten area. Parents must wait with their child until the classroom teacher opens the Kindergarten doors. If you are late, the doors will be locked. Please enter through the front doors of the school and sign in at the office. Information about Nutrition Break Gordon Price is a NUT-FREE environment Please note that “peanut free” products often contain tree nuts. ALL nut products are not allowed at school(e.g. Nutella). Pack healthy snacks in easy to open containers Discuss with your child what to eat and when Use reusable containers whenever possible (i.e. water or juice containers) Please use a Thermos to keep food warm when desired. School Readiness Skills for Independence Have your child practise doing these independently Putting on and zipping up sweaters and coats Putting on shoes Fastening zipper and buttons on pants Toileting (e.g. flushing the toilet and washing hands when done). Changing into clean clothes Basic hygiene skills (i.e. using kleen-ex, washing and drying their hands, wiping their face, etc.)

School Readiness for Learning and Sharing Throughout the summer try the following with your child Singing the ABCs, practise identifying some letters Printing their name Drawing and/or colouring pictures Use scissors to cut paper or make crafts Read on a regular basis Answer and discuss their questions to explore learning and practise taking turns listening and speaking Use manners Practice following instructions when asked Practice problem solving skills (e.g. talking about a problem instead of being hands-on) Share materials with friends and siblings by taking turns See information from Early Words on back table

Materials your child will need for school EVERYTHING MUST BE LABELED Appropriately sized backpack (e.g. that can fit a library book, lunch bag, change of clothes and Communication Bag). Lunch bag Full change on clothes (including underwear and socks) Velcro running shoes Weather appropriate clothing for recess Please do not send crayons, pencils, markers. These materials will be provided by the school.

Kindergarten Wish List We always welcome the following donations to our classrooms: Beautiful junk (e.g. paper towel rolls, egg cartoons, milk tabs, squares of used wrapping paper, etc.). Old craft material (e.g. beads, yarn, buttons, stickers, scrapbooking material, glitter, feathers, etc.). LARGE ZIPLOCK BAGS-These are used for our daily communication bags Play-Doh

Importance of School Routines Getting up in the morning Getting dressed independently Coming home after school Checking backpacks & Important Bags Bedtime Routine Routines are very important to help ensure success at home and at school. When children know what to expect they are more likely to follow instructions and feel comfortable in their environment.
