S TEVE ’ S COLLECTION OF THOUGHTS Mini ideas and quotes from a week in Rotorua, February 2009

PREFACE The ideas poured along like the Rangitata in flood. First I had one page, then it was five, and suddenly I’d reached 58. I wonder why I stopped at 58? The quotes and ideas in this booklet are the results of a reflection session a day after I came back from the ICT conference that I attended in Rotorua at the end of February The ideas in this book have been mixed up in regards to what I think were most important. You’ll therefore find thoughts that I personally found inspiring alongside thoughts that I found simply sad, although the first quote and the last quote were placed tactically. I have also purposefully failed to attribute the quotes to anyone. Some are from the keynote speakers, some are from our presenters in the workshops, some are from informal conversations with colleagues, and some are even from overheard conversations. Some are ideas that were a result of thinking about a conversation. And the word “I” doesn’t necessarily equate to ownership on my behalf. By attributing the major quotes to the major players I feel that too often we find ourselves making more out of their contributions purely because they’re the big thinkers in the world. They’re not the only ones who think in this world. And quite probably, I have no idea who really said what anyway. But it’s got me thinking. Steve Zonnevylle Timaru 1 st March, 2009
