Roundwood Park School ART & DESIGN GCSE

What GCSE courses do we offer? Art & Design (a general art course) Art and Design Textiles Art Department

Assessment for GCSE Art courses Coursework (60% of marks) All work covered in year (including mock exam) Timed Assignment (40% of marks) A theme or title is set by the exam board, such as Forces, Ordinary/Extra-ordinary, Similarities/Differences. Students have 8 weeks planning followed by 2 full days to produce a piece of work based on the theme. An exhibition of the work is held at the end of yr11.

What is covered during the course? Observational drawing Print making – lino, collagraph, etching, screen, Painting with different paint media e.g. acrylics, watercolours, inks 3D, relief, clay, modroc Experimenting with mixed media Photography Digital manipulation Critical reference – looking at the work of other artists

Gallery Visits Induction day for yr9 including a trip to Cambridge Botanical Gardens and Art Gallery Possible Art trip in the Spring Term, previous destinations- Amsterdam, Paris, New York, Berlin Workshops with outside Artists Visits to other galleries eg Tate Modern or other major or smaller galleries.
