El presente progresivo objective…talking about what happens right now. The present progressive is a verb tense used to emphasize on something happening right now. It is a compound verb tense with 2 mandatory parts.

El presente progresivo objective…talking about what happens right now. 1.) A conjugated form of the verb “estar”. estoy estamos estás estáis está, están

El presente progresivo objective…talking about what happens right now. 2.) A present participle of the action verb. To form, take off the last two letters of the infinitive verb and add –ando for –ar verbs and –iendo for –er and –ir verbs. Ejemplo…Mi mamá está trabajando. Ejemplo…Yo estoy escribiendo.

El presente progresivo objective…talking about what happens right now. -ar and –er verbs will never stem- change in the present participle. Ejemplo…almorzar almorzando -ir forms will have a slight irregularity Ejemplo “dormir” durmiendo The verb “leer” has an irregular present participle leyendo

El presente progresivo objective…talking about what happens right now. Two vocabulary phrases often used with this tense are… Ahora (mismo) (right) now En este momento at this moment

Remember how to conjugate <<estar>>? 1.) To form present progressive we start with the verb <<estar>>. Remember how to conjugate <<estar>>?

estoy estamos estás estáis está, están The conjugated forms of the verb <<estar>> tells us who is doing the action.

2.) To form the present progressive with <<–ar>> verbs, we drop the <<-ar>> and add <<-ando>> Hablar = Habl + ando = Hablando

2.) To form the present participle with <<–er>> & <<–ir>> verbs, we drop the <<–er>> & <<–ir>> and add <<-iendo>> Comer = comiendo Escribir = escribiendo

Let’s practice the present participles (-ando, iendo) Beber Tomar Comer Vivir Bailar

tomando = taking, drinking comiendo = eating viviendo = living One way to express the –ing suffix in English is to use the present participle. bebiendo = drinking tomando = taking, drinking comiendo = eating viviendo = living bailando = dancing

These <<-ando>> and <<-iendo>> words are called the present participle. The present participle can never stand alone. So we put it with <<estar>> so we can tell who is doing the action.

To do this, first conjugate <<estar>>, then add the correct <<-ando>> or <<-iendo>> to the action verb. Estoy = I am bailando = dancing

Remember the present progressive gives emphasis that something is happening now. Está escuchando. Escucha.

Practice by writing or saying the sentences with the present progressive.

Estamos jugando a los videojuegos. We are playing video games.

Están escribiendo ahora mismo. They are writing right now.

¿Estás tocando la guitarra?. Are you, singular and informal, playing the guitar?

Estoy aprendiendo. I am learning.
