2 Present Progressive We use the present tense to talk about an action that always or often takes place or that is happening now.

3 Present Progressive Ellos comen ensaladas. They eat salads.
They are eating salads.

4 Present Progressive We use the present progressive tense when we want to emphasize that something is happening right now.

5 Present Progressive Ellos están comiendo ensaladas.
They are eating salads. (right now)

6 Present Progressive están comiendo Present tense form of “estar”
Participle (“gerund”)

7 Present Progressive The “gerund” is generally equivalent to the English present participle. Ej: “comiendo”

8 comiendo Present Progressive -er present participle Stem of ending
comer

9 Present Progressive To make the present participle, Use the endings:
iendo for -er / -ir verbs ando for -ar verbs

10 Present Progressive Let’s do an -AR verb in the present progressive.

We are dancing They are dancing

12 BAILAR Estoy bailando Estás bailando Está bailando Estamos bailando
Están bailando

17 *Gerunds ending in “yendo”*
The gerund of “-er” and “-ir” verbs with stems ending in a vowel is formed by adding “-yendo”: Caer – cayendo Creer – creyendo Leer – leyendo Oír – oyendo Traer - trayendo

18 *“Yendo”* The gerund for the Verb “IR” (to go) is “yendo”.

19 Preferir – prefiriendo
*Irregulars* Stem-changing “-ir” verbs change the stem vowel from EI and from OU: Dormir – durmiendo Morir – muriendo Poder - pudiendo Decir – diciendo Pedir – pidiendo Preferir – prefiriendo Reír - riendo Repetir - repitiendo Sentir – sintiendo Servir - sirviendo Venir – viniendo Vestir - vistiendo
