Did you know that... the present and past participle forms of many verbs can function as adjectives? –The patient is depressed. past participles by phrasemost sentences using past participles can be restated with a by phrase? –He is depressed by his life. present participles active verbmost sentences using present participles can be restated with an active verb? –This movie bores me.

Observe the context and the prepositions Frances was amazed at her sudden strength. I was totally amazed by the brilliance of her painting. The background hum of the fan may be annoying to some users. I was a bit annoyed about the whole thing. We enjoyed the game but were rather annoyed at being beated. I was annoyed by her remark. She felt slightly annoyed with herself. The game was boring for the spectators. I was bored at the prospect of going shopping. He seemed slightly bored by the whole process. He was bored with their conversation.

Observe the context and the prepositions She is terribly depressed about losing her job. I was depress by our lack of progress. This was very disappointing for all the fans. That was very disappointing to me. I’m disappointed about John not coming. They’re disappointed at the result. I was slightly disappointed by her attitude. He is disappointed in his daughter. We’re disappointed with the new car. They’re are really excited at the news. The kids seemed pretty excited about the holiday. He was puzzled but strangely excited by comotion.

This rule is not very interesting for the visitors. How can we make the subject more interesting to young people? She’s always been interested in other people. That’s a real design which is pleasing to the eye. He was pleased about the move. She seemed pleased at our success. You must be pleased by their confidence in you. I’m very pleased for you both. We are immensely pleased with this result. I was very relaxed about the decision. We were deeply touched by your concern. They were stimulated by simultaneous exposure to the sun.
