THE FURTHER MATHEMATICS NETWORK What it means for your school/college Let Maths take you Further…

Why do Further Mathematics? Studying Further Maths will: make your students think! (and so develop their thinking skills) give students the chance to meet some interesting and useful Mathematical ideas not covered on the standard Maths A level help students to succeed on any Maths- related degree course and give them UCAS points help students with material in the standard Maths A-level

The [Name of Centre] Further Mathematics Centre can: Help you to increase the uptake of Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level in your school Support existing Further Mathematics provision by providing expert advice, access to resources, CPD opportunities, Revision Days at local universities, encouraging sharing of expertise Provide tuition of FM for students in schools/colleges which cannot offer it

How studying through the [Name of Centre] Further Mathematics Centre works Students will use resources on an extensive, purpose-written website Students will learn to make effective use of their textbooks Studying will necessarily be done more independently Students will receive face to face tuition for two hours per week and they will be set homework each week

What are the benefits of this model of studying? This style of studying will: provide excellent preparation for university style working demonstrate students’ initiative and commitment to universities and employers provide opportunities to study alongside students from other schools/colleges provide opportunites to study in a university environment

Funding arrangements Schools/colleges can claim LSC funding for AS/A-level Further Mathematics qualifications studied through the Further Mathematics Network in exactly the same way as they do for AS/A-level subjects they teach ‘in-house’ The National Base rate of funding is approximately £840 pounds per student per year of AS/A2 study, but is subject to other factors Further Mathematics Network tuition charges are based on this rate and leave your school/college with a net balance to cover administration and examination entries

What do we want from you at this stage? Please register with us to receive your free username and password to the resources website. Help in building up a data base of current AS/A level provision in Mathematics and Further mathematics, Let us know what you would like from the Centre. Tailored Revision Days? CPD? Advice and Support? Opportunities for trips to universities?

If you are interested in tuition through the FM Centre Please discuss with us options for modules required and times and venues for lessons We will be happy to meet your school/college management to discuss final arrangements and finance Your school/college will need to nominate a main contact who will be responsible for liaison with the FM Centre

Other opportunities You can become involved in the FM Centre as a tutor. Please get in touch if you are interested in this Please feel free to give us requests for CPD, enrichment events and Revision Days. There is much expertise within the FM Network that we can draw on We would be happy to come and talk to your students about why they should take Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level
