2 Overview of the Process
Summer Term Tutors will introduce UCAS and the idea of going to University Students will start their initial information gathering Visit University Open Days Use UCAS website – course search etc. SACU – Careers Spartan Quiz Gather information for your Personal Statement September Register for an UCAS account via the website Complete Application Form Finalise Personal Statement with tutor help

Deadlines 15th October – University of Oxford / Cambridge 15th October – Medical Applications / Dentistry 22nd October – Nursing, Midwifery & Competitive Subjects October ½ Term – Send your completed for to your personal tutor 15th January – Equal Opportunities Deadline After your form has been sent (before the end of May) Use UCAS TRACK to follow your application Attend interviews etc. as required Make your Firm and Insurance choices Arrange Student Finance via the .GOV website

5 The Application Form Education Secondary School
Qualifications taken + Grade + Exam Board College Qualifications you are taking + Units + Exam Board Grades are Pending! Employment Optional – for Part Time Jobs Personal Statement Prepared in Word separately Copied in once checked by tutor

6 The Personal Statement
4000 Characters (including spaces) and 47 lines Introduction What do you want to study and why? Is there something or someone that triggered your interest in the subject? In Education What have you been studying? Which particular topics have you been inspired by and what have they prompted you to do? E.g. Further reading, go and seek some work experience etc. What skills have you developed that will enable you to study at a higher level? Outside of Education Have you completed any relevant work experience? What did you observe? What did you learn? Small section on hobbies and interests. Conclusion What would you like to go on to do after university?

7 Support from SSFC Tutorials
Your personal tutor will oversee the filling in of your application form Your personal tutor will aid you with your personal statement Once the application form and statement are complete, they are sent to the personal tutor. The student cannot edit anything at this stage. Personal Tutor The personal tutor will contact all of the subject teachers and get a written report on their progress including a predicted grade. The personal tutor will then write a Teacher Reference for the student and attach it to the form along with the predicted grades. If any changes are needed to the application, the form is returned to the student.

8 Support from SSFC Checking Service
Once the personal tutor is happy with the application form, it is sent for checking with the UCAS support staff within college. If any mistakes are spotted or corrections / additions needed, the form is returned to the student or personal tutor. If everything is ok, it is passed to the UCAS lead co-ordinator within college (Martin) for a final check. The form is then sent to UCAS. The student will receive an confirmation that their application has been received.
