Presentation transcript:

 Fascism as a noun is a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc, and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.  It is described as a genus of political ideology whose mythic core in its various permutations is a palingenetic form of populist ultra nationalism.

 As an economic system, fascism is socialism with a capitalist veneer. The word derives from fasces, the Roman symbol of collectivism and power: a tied bundle of rods with a protruding ax. In its day (the 1920s and 1930s), fascism was seen as the happy medium.  Fascism has been widely criticized and condemned in popular culture since the defeat of the Axis Powers in World War II.

Fascism’s History  It started in Italy after World War II (Mussolini).  Fascism combined both left and right political views but is considered a far right political belief today.  Similar political ideas arose in Germany after the outbreak of the war.

 Fascism emphasizes direct action, including supporting the legitimacy of political violence, as a core part of its politics.  Fascist movements have commonly held social Darwinist views of nations, races, and societies.
