Capítulo 4.2 Gramáticas

Do you remember that the Ir is irregular verb? Yes, because it doesn’t follow a clear pattern.

Do you remember how to conjugate the Ir verbs? Yo voy Tú vas Él/Ella va Nosotros vamos Vosotros vais Ellos/Ellas van

⇒ When the verb Ir is followed by a and the infinitive form of a verb, it is translated as “going to…” Only the form of Ir changes. The second verb remains in the infinitive form. We use the same construction in English as a way of expressing a near future event. ⇒ Remember than an infinitive is a verb that has not been conjugated. Por ejemplo: Yo voy a estudiar español. Ella va a ir a España. Nosotros vamos a ver la televisión. Ellos van a escribir la tarea. I am going to study Spanish. She is going to go to Spain. We are going to watch television. They are going to write the homework.

1. Marco _____ estudiar para el examen. 2. ¿_____ ver ustedes la televisión? 3. Gregorio y yo ________ sacar muy buenas notas. 4. Yo no _____ comer las hamburguesas. 5. ¿Por qué tú no _____ ir al colegio? 6. Cristina _____ cumplir quince años. va a van a vamos a voy a vas a va a

1. Ella va a estudiar para la prueba. She is going to study for the quiz. 2. Los estudiantes van a hablar en español. The students are going to speak in Spanish. 3. Marta y yo vamos a comprar un libro. Marta and I are going to buy a book. Translate the following sentences from English to Spanish. 1. I’m going to go swimming. Yo voy a ir a nadar. 2. He’s going to go to the movies Él va a ir al cine.

⇒ Remember: In Spanish, many useful expressions are formed by combining two verbs. When this occurs, the first verb is conjugated, while the second verb remains in the infinitive form. Por ejemplo: Juan sabe nadar. Juan knows how to swim. Nosotros queremos jugar fútbol. We want to play soccer.

⇒ To say that you are going to do something on a certain day of a particular week, use el before the weekday. Por ejemplo: El sábado voy a ir de compras. On Saturday I’m going to go shopping. El lunes vamos a ir al cine. On Monday we are going to go to the movies. El miércoles van a correr en el parque. On Wednesday they are going to run in the park.

1. On Tuesday I’m going to study. El martes voy a estudiar. 2. On Friday I’m going to write. El viernes voy a escribir. 3. On Sunday I’m going to read. El domingo voy a leer.
