Please check out this slideshow for general information pertaining to you and your third grader.

 Please call the attendance line to report absences.  Arrival begins at 7:30 AM  School day begins at 8:10 AM  Dismissal  1 st bell (round one busses) is at 3:00 PM.  2 nd bell (round 2 busses, pickups, walkers) is at 3:05 PM

 If you’d like to pick up homework for your child, please call in the office before 9:00 am.  Homework will be ready for your child at the end of the day.

 State testing dates occur between the end of October and Early November.  Please make sure that your child is in a attendance during these dates.  3 rd graders are tested in the areas of math and reading.  Testing is usually spread out in a 5 day window and occurs in the morning hours.

 Please refer to Grand Avenue Dress Code to make sure your student is dressed accordingly.  It is a good idea to have a change of clothing, including a shirt, pants and socks.  Athletic shoes are required on Phy. Ed days.

 Please check these nightly and sign in the parent signature section.  They’re checked daily by your child’s teacher.  Students record their assignments in them each day.  It’s a great way to communicate between home and school.  The take home folders come home nightly containing homework and important school documents.

 Grand Avenue goes GREEN.  Many documents from the school office and classroom are sent through .  Please keep the office informed of changes.  Please let the office know if you don’t prefer this type of communication.  We always appreciate the communication.  Each teacher has a nightly reading assignment.  While reading with your child…  Ask about the characters, setting, problems, solutions.  Help them decode by looking for pieces of words they know, blending sounds, skipping and coming back to the word.  Practice fluency, by rereading familiar literature and working on smoothness and expression.  Discuss new vocabulary and possible meanings for words using context clues.

 Homelinks come home most evenings.  You may check out an SRB (student reference book) to use at home. (Must be brought back to school each day.)  Parent letters come home before each new unit to explain concepts and have answers for parents to reference.  Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts throughout the year.

 The spelling program focuses on spelling patterns rather than memorization.  Word previews are sent home with words that following the spelling patterns focused on in the unit.  There is a spelling review for each unit.  Take Home Tasks sent home with each unit. They are they same skill on the spelling review.

 Students may bring a healthy snack to eat before or after morning recess.  There is not a milk option in third grade with snack.  Students may bring a treat to celebrate their birthday if they choose.

 At Grand Avenue we talk about appropriate behavior in regards to being ABOVE THE LINE.
