What is required by law for Parent and Family Engagement? As mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), schools and districts must ensure that strong strategies are in place to: 1) Build capacity to engage parents and stakeholders in an effective partnership with the school 2) Share and support high student academic achievement. 3) Provide full opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency, parents of migratory children, and parents with disabilities. 4) Provide Information and school reports in a language that parents can understand, such as translated flyers or an interpreter present at meetings. What is a School-Family Compact? The School-Family Compact is an agreement that outlines how parents, the entire school /staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.
