District Goals

Title I is a federally funded programs began under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESSA). The purpose of Title I- is to ensure that ALL children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. What is a Title I School?

How does our school participate in the Title I Program? Direct Instruction- Teacher salaries and benefits Support technology for students to use at home and at school Support Teachers serving students in the classroom to provide extra support Parent Engagement-Parent workshops, two-way communication for families and staff, and community linking efforts Parent Resource Office-support information, HAC training, and supplies Improvement of Instruction-Teacher professional development How does our school participate in the Title I Program?

What are our school’s Title I schoolwide requirements? Providing Staff with adequate training, professional learning, resources, and materials to enhance teaching and to work effectively with families Sharing of information: PDW School Improvement Plan Identifying and providing support for students that need additional academic resources Setting goals for improvement and using data driven research to increase student achievement What are our school’s Title I schoolwide requirements?

Paul D. West Schoolwide Program What are our Schoolwide goals? Goal 1: Increase students literacy proficiency rates by 5% so that 45% of our students are at levels II, III,IV on the ELA/Reading portion of the Georgia Milestones Assessment by May 2019. Goal 2: Increase students mathematics proficiency rates by 5% so that 50% of our students score at levels II,III, IV on the Georgia Milestones Assessment by May 2019. What is required by law for Parent and Family Engagement? As mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), schools and districts must ensure that strong strategies are in place to: 1) Build capacity to engage parents and stakeholders in an effective partnership with the school 2) Share and support high student academic achievement. 3) Provide full opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency, parents of migratory children, and parents with disabilities. 4) Provide Information and school reports in a language that parents can understand, such as translated flyers or an interpreter present at meetings. What is required by law for Parent and Family Engagement?

What is the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan? Each school that receives Title I funds must jointly develop, review and revise, agree with, and distribute to parents and family members of children receiving services a written Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP). The Parent and Family Engagement Plan outlines how the school will implement programs, activities, and procedures for the engagement of parents in Title I programs. The plan will establish the school’s expectations for parent and family engagement and how the school will carry out the parent and family engagement requirements. What is the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan?

What is a School-Family Compact? Each school that receives Title I funds must jointly develop, review and revise with parents, students and teachers, a School-Family Compact as part of the school-level parent and family engagement policy. The School-Family Compact is an agreement that outlines how parents, the entire school /staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards. What is a School-Family Compact?

Does my child’s teacher meet professional qualifications? Parents have the right to know the qualifications of their child’s teacher and if they meet the “Highly qualified” status. In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Fulton County Schools informs parents that you may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) and/or paraprofessional(s). If you wish to request information concerning your child’s teacher’s or paraprofessional’s qualifications, please contact our school at 470.254.8130 Does my child’s teacher meet professional qualifications?

How is the Title I Parent and Family Engagement money spent? Title I funds are used for parental engagement that includes support to facilitating transition from MS to HS Parent Liaison Parent Resource Office Curriculum design, implementation, and professional development Family & Community engagement targeted to building the capacity of Parent engagement and more How is the Title I Parent and Family Engagement money spent?

What opportunities does the school provide for Parent Engagement? Parents have the right to be involved in the planning and implementation of the parent engagement program in this school. Parents are invited every Spring to be a part of reviewing and revising the School–Family Compact and the Parent Family Engagement Plan that is distributed to all parents.
