2 Why are we here? The ESEA requires that each Title-I school hold an annual meeting of Title-I parents for the purpose of… Informing you of your school’s participation in Title-I Explaining the requirements of Title-I Explaining your rights as parents to be involved Title I is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). This act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to LEA (Local Education Agencies) and public schools with high numbers of economically disadvantaged children to help ensure that all children meet state academic content and student academic achievement standards.

What is the1% set-aside for parental involvement? What is the School Parental Involvement Policy? What is the School-wide Title-I Plan? What is the School-Parent Compact? How do I request the qualifications of my child’s teacher(s)? How will KMS use our Title-I funds for Instruction, Professional Development and Parental Involvement?

How will I be notified if my child is taught by a teacher who is not Highly Qualified? How is the Annual Evaluation of the Parental Involvement Plan conducted? How can I be involved in all of these things I am learning about? How you want them to walk away from the meeting with 10 key questions answered about Title I and Parental Involvement. (The 10 questions continue onto the next slide.)

5 How title-I funding helps your child
Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding to supplement the school’s existing programs. This money is used for… Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these students meet the State’s challenging content standards Hiring HQ supplemental staff, & purchasing programs, materials, supplies Conducting Parental Involvement meetings, trainings, & activities Recruiting, hiring, & retaining Highly Qualified teachers

6 How Title-I Funding Helps Your Child: Improving the Academic Achievement of All Students
Title-I was implemented To ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and State academic assessments.

8 Designation Status A "High-Progress School" is a Title-I school that is among the top 10% of Title-I schools in the State. The school must be making the most progress in improving the performance of the “All Students” over three years on the State-mandated assessments. Kendrick Middle School is a Title-I High Progress School ♦ ♦

9 SCHOOL CURRICULUM The Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) & the Common Core Georgia Standards of Excellence (CCGSE) provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace.

10 Georgia Milestones For the school year, Georgia will continue administering the assessments aligned to Common Core. The assessments will be used to gauge how well students are mastering the standards and ultimately, how prepared students are to succeed in college and career.

Kendrick’s Title-I 1% Budget for Parental Involvement Kendrick was allotted $3, for parental involvement this school year. How do you think we should use our Title-I 1% funds for parental involvement this school year?

Title I-A requires the utilization of 1% of the funds to support and promote parental involvement in school. Please assist us in making decisions on how we can best support parental involvement. 14 What is the parental involvement policy
This policy addresses how the school will implement the parental involvement requirements of the ESEA. It includes… The school’s expectations for parents How the school will involve parents in decision-making How the school will work to build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement to improve student academic achievement You, as Title-I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of this policy. Discuss: Key components of the plan. This is an excellent time to share the school’s academic strengths & weaknesses with parents & how we will need to all work together as partners to meet certain goals, both for the school and for each individual child. - That Title I parents have the right, by law, to be involved in the development of the School-wide Title I Plan . The process and timeline for the School-wide Title I Plan committee’s work and how parents can give input. Introduce parent representatives of the committee Clearly state the process that is in place for all Title I parents to have the opportunity for input on the School- wide Title I Plan . Where parents can find a complete copy of the School-wide Title I Plan at any time during the year. Important: Parents should leave the meeting being able to answer the following question: What is the School-wide Title I Plan , and how can you be involved in its development? (Parents should be able to discuss the process that is in place for their involvement in the development of the School-wide Title I Plan .)

The compact is a commitment from the school, the parent, and the student to share in the responsibility for improved academic achievement You, as Title-I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of the School-Parent Compact Distribution of the Compact Revision Feedback Form
