2 Why Are We Here? The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents for the purpose of… Informing you of your district and school’s participation in Title I Explaining the requirements of Title I Explaining your rights as parents to be involved

3 How is Title I funded? The United State Department of Education gives a share of Title I funds to each state based on the percentage of poverty in the state.

4 How is Title I funded? New Jersey then gives the money to school districts based on the district poverty level as compared to the rest of the state.

5 Title I Services The purpose of the Office of Title I is to ensure that all children obtain a high-quality education and achieve, at a minimum, proficiency on the challenging Common Core State Standards as measured by state assessments. In addition, this office ensures that districts and schools implement all requirements under the Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of To this end, staff provides guidance, professional development, and technical assistance.

6 Title I Requirements Title I programs must use instructional strategies based on scientifically based research and implement parental involvement activities. Targeted Programs service identified students. Schoolwide Programs can service all students in the school.

7 Targeted Assistance Program
Title I schools with less than 40 percent low- income students or that choose not to operate a schoolwide program offer a "targeted assistance program" in which the school identifies students who are most at risk to meet the state's challenging academic achievement standards. Keyport High School operates as a Targeted Assistance School.

9 Schoolwide assistance programs
Title I schools with more than 40% low- income students that have applied for and been approved with a program can operate as a Title I Schoolwide school. The Keyport Central School completed this process during the school year and has been operating as a Schoolwide School since the School Year.

10 Creating the Schoolwide plan
The Schoolwide Plan is created by a committee of community and school stakeholders using data from the Comprehensive Needs Assessment Schoolwide Title I funding can support ALL students that attend the school Schoolwide Plan can be found on the Website Priorities for both the Schoolwide Plan and the Targeted Assistance plan are determined from findings in each school’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment

11 Program Students receive differentiated instruction through small group instruction based on instructional need. The instruction usually occurs during the ELA and Math blocks. (CS) High School Title I opportunities are course- based. After-School Programs for students run from November until May. Extended year programs run in July.

13 Compact The compact is a commitment between the school, the parent, and the student to share in the responsibility for improved academic achievement

14 Parental Rights Request the qualifications of your child’s teacher
Request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make instructional suggestions Participate in decisions relating to the education of your child
