Contact Information enstewart@holyspirit-al.com hleach@holyspirit-al.com School Number: 205-553-9630 Please feel free to call or send an email if you ever have a question or concern.

School Website http://www.holyspirit-al.com/ You can find the Classroom Information, Policies, and Rules handout on the page for Mrs. Leach or Mrs. Stewart. We sent this handout home on Friday. Do you have any questions or concerns about what is listed in this informational packet?

Tests A spelling test will be given at the end of every week. Reading tests will either be given at the end of the week when reading a story from the textbook or at the end of a unit when conducting a novel study. Math, Science, History, Grammar, and Religion tests will be given after the completion of a unit.

Study Guidelines Students are expected to keep up with their notes throughout lessons and units, and to study throughout the week. The students will be instructed before tests what they need to study. The students may be given a practice page or assignment to help them prepare for a test, but they should also study their notes and reread important information. Our tests will be comprised of information from the textbooks and workbooks, as well as information discussed in class.

Reading We will be using our series Reading Street as well as incorporating novel studies this year.. The students will build their fluency and comprehension skills by reading as a class, with a partner or group, and independently. By reading a variety of texts, your children will be learning the different elements of fiction and nonfiction texts. We will be focusing on learning reading skills and strategies that students can use with a variety of texts.

Book Reports Book report instructions have been given to each child. The instructions are in your child’s red homework folder. You can also find a copy of the book report instructions under Mrs. Stewart’s class page or Mrs. Leach’s class page. http://www.holyspirit-al.com/ Students will complete one book report a month throughout the school year (except December and May). Please go over the instructions and grading with your child. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Spelling Menu The Spelling Menu will be for homework each week.. The students have the instructions for their Spelling Menu and their choices in their Red homework folder. The students are to choose 3 activities to complete. These activities will be due Thursday morning. They will have a practice Spelling Test for homework on Thursday night.

Religion We will be using the Religion series this year titled Alive in Christ Our goal this year is for your child to grow more prayerful and to have a closer relationship, through prayer, with Our Lord Jesus Christ. Below is the website the corresponds with our Religion book. Take time to explore the site with your child and discover the site’s useful features. http://www.aliveinchrist.osv.com/

Ordering Lunch You must order ALL lunches online. Milk also has to be ordered online. Please remember to order lunches at the end of each month for the upcoming month.
