Assignment 3 – Visual Principles Paula Pulley ppulley@vt Assignment 3 – Visual Principles Paula Pulley ppulley@vt.edu July 18, 2008 3-2. Design a visual using computer graphics and describe which guidelines and principles you used. The description should be at least one page in length and should address the overall pattern, arrangement, verbal elements, and appeal. Include your visual in your document.   When designing my visual, I chose a pattern that would encourage the viewer’s eyes to flow from the top left of the page to the bottom right. Each text box is aligned with one another in a diagonal pattern towards the bottom of the page. Each step of the scientific method is shown inside of a rounded rectangle shape to attract the viewer and focus their attention on the text inside. I have placed appropriate clip art in close proximity to the steps that it relates to. Although I do not use directional arrows in my visual, I numbered the steps of the process so that the viewer will know where the process starts and where it ends. I have used a sans serif font in each of the boxes and have bolded and increased the font size to make the text stand out more. I’ve used capital letters only where they are normally required. I’ve used a dark background color and a white text color in following with the figure-ground contrast. I have shown consistency by making all of the text boxes and font colors within the same color. I have used complementary colors for the background and foreground colors of the visual. I chose a light yellow for the background that combines well with the brown color of the text boxes. I’ve colored the word art title red to add a visually appealing accent. I tried to keep the visual very simple without adding clutter in order to appeal to a younger audience.
