Remember to add important details Contact information Website Phone number Address Cover the who, what, when, why, where But don’t write “Who?”, “What?” on your flyer

3 Layout Use simple, easy-to-read format that follows the natural flow of your eyes The natural way of reading/scanning a page is left to right, top to bottom Place most important information in the top left part of the page moving downwards For contemporary layouts, follow the patterns found in most comic books. Lay it out in a number 2 pattern or Z-pattern You may also align centered horizontally for a symmetrical look Balance the placement of text and graphics You never want your poster to feel cluttered or crowded Ask yourself, “Does every element have room to breathe?”

4 Text Keep text simple and to the point
Short phrases or bulleted points Add contrast with font size, style, and color Don’t use more than two typefaces (fonts) in a document Choose easy to read fonts Use text styles to differentiate sections of text Bold Italics Use color to draw attention to particular points of a message Avoid ALL CAPS

5 Fonts Font size matters Choose a font that emphasizes your message
Use the largest font size for what you want seen first Choose a font that emphasizes your message Informal and fun? Formal and serious? Do not use all capital fonts

Use colorful or striking graphics One large image will have more impact than many smaller images Use photo or illustration to Grab attention Create a mood Support your message 

7 Images Arrange images wisely
Use transparency to lighten your image and make your text pop Choose images with colors that text can easily stand out on Use a shape or effect to make your image/text stand out Use a lighter image to subtly fill empty space

8 Use Color Wisely Colors are highly emotional elements that can easily engage a viewer’s feelings Every color represents a feeling or a mood Warmth and comfort, pick something from the blue family Excitement and energy, choose red or orange Nature-inspired shade, go for green

9 Color Schemes Create color harmony Complimentary color scheme
Uses colors opposite each other on color wheel Monochromatic color scheme Uses various tones of one color Analogous Colors close to each other on color wheel More Color Schemes

10 Other Suggestions Add a border to bring focus to your content
Use the light and dark areas of a flyer to provide contrast Place light text on a dark area of a photo (or vice-versa) Write a snappy headline or title

11 Finally Proofread! Spelling and grammatical errors make your document unusable
