The Professional Registration Process Chartership Program The Professional Registration Process

Professional Registration with CILIP Relevant to library and information professionals at all stages of their career Professional Registration is about completing a process that demonstrates that you have attained a certain level of professional practice; enabling you to be added to the register of practitioners that CILIP maintains under the Royal Charter. As a member, being added to the register is recognition of both your achievements and your commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and the profession.

Levels of Professional Registration Certification Open to all members of CILIP and the first step in the Professional Registration process Focus on demonstrating your knowledge and skills and developing these in the workplace Currently costs £25 Sterling to enrol in the process Chartership Open to all members of CILIP Development of your skills and knowledge and ensuring application of these skills in your workplace Internationally Recognised Program for Information Professionals who wish to have their skills, knowledge and application of these skills formally acknowledged. Currently costs £50 Sterling to enrol in the process Fellowship Highest level of Professional Recognition Must hold a Senior Position in your Organisation or have made a significant contribution to the Information Profession Fellowship means your contributions are recognised and valued by a group of your peers.

Assessment criteria for Chartership Identified areas for improvement in their personal performance, undertaken activities to develop skills, applied these in practice, and reflected on the process and outcomes Examined the organisational context of their service, evaluated service performance, shown the ability to implement or recommend improvement, and reflected on actual or desired outcomes Enhanced their knowledge of the wider professional context and reflected on areas of current interest

The Application Process Join CILIP Enrol for Chartership Attend a Registration workshop where possible Find a Mentor Stage 1 Complete a self-assessment using the PKSB Work with your PKSB Development plan Identify areas for improvement with your Mentor Stage 2 Developing yourself Collect evidence, record progress Stage 3 Assemble your Portfolio Write your Evaluative statement and Submit Stage 4

Forms of Evidence Presentation notes Meeting minutes Training plan Conference evaluations Reports Visit reports Blog posts Annotated bibliographies This is not an exhaustive list just remember that your evidence should demonstrate value and meet the assessment criteria. Upload your evidence to your VLE account as you go along.

Support and Guidance Regional Member Networks and Candidate Support Officer Your CILIP Mentor Your CILIP Mentor is your first point of contact in relation to any queries you have about the process. They assist you on how approach the Chartership Program, providing you with guidance and tasks to help you up-skill in your identified areas for improvement. Ideally your Mentor should be from a different organization/sector so as to provide a balanced view of your skills and knowledge. These are here to support you through your career not just your application. They provide training and networking events and will answer any questions you may have about the Chartership program. CILIP Ireland are the Regional Network

Support and Guidance CILIP Discussion Forums Social Media Networks There is a discussion forum on the VLE for all members working towards Professional Registration CILIP Staff, Mentors, Candidates and Support Officers are available for discussion on the platform 24/7 There are Chartership Blogs Twitter Accounts #chartership tag is used for all queries about the program Full list of publications are available on the VLE Sample Portfolios are also available through the VLE and Support Officers
