To help raise the status of the profession both nationally and within institutions To ensure that members are properly recognised for their knowledge, skills and competence across the research lifecycle To support a student’s development as an effective research administrator, benefiting both them and their institution. To deliver opportunities for students to learn new skills and knowledge and enhance their ability to reflect on and plan improvements in their daily activity. Credit students for skills, knowledge and understanding obtained prior to undertaking the qualification as well

15 Certificate in Research Mangement
For research managers with at least 4 years experience in the majority of areas covered by the mandatory units: The normal completion period to be to 18 months from registration Students will study 5 mandatory units and 1 optional unit Each unit will be worth 3-5 credits (e.g hours of learning including guided / self-directed learning and assessment preparation) 45 hours of formal learning, including at least 25 hours gained via CARA webinars and national conference and up to 18 hours of contact time with a Professional Mentor. Other Formal Learning might include mentoring, work- shadowing, secondment or peer-support meetings. 135 hours of Self-guided Learning, including reading, research and the preparation of portfolio evidence and written assignments.

20 What Do I need to do in the FIRST 6 months?
You need to provide your date of birth Complete any forms send out to you via our Podio Student Management System Identify a Professional Mentor Notify of your Professional Mentor’s name within 2 weeks of program start Decide which units you are going to take and the order – see Study Work Plan and notify CARA within 2 weeks of program start Attend regular meetings with your Professional Mentor Begin work on your assignments for the first 2 units DUE DATES ARE March 31 and Sept 30 each year, 5 p.m. Eastern

21 CRM Costs The cost of the Certificate in Research Management consists of the Qualification Fee plus the cost of formal learning, made up of CARA webinars and/or the Annual Conference. Qualification Fee: $1,450 Canadian Dollars plus tax The Qualification Fee includes: Registration for 18 months Assessment and Certification of six units Formal Learning CARA webinars $90 each (Canadian Dollars plus applicable tax) CARA National Conference registration (Attend a minimum of 25 CARA webinars or 19 webinars plus 1 Annual Conference or 13 webinars plus 2 Annual Conferences)

22 Program Costs CARA is committed to making the program as accessible as possible CARA is the only association participating that: Allows all formal learning to be completed without travel Allows a free webinar to count toward the program Allows 1 webinar taken prior to program start to count toward the requirements Offers a Board Award: recruit 5 new CARA members and receive 3 free webinars Allows translation volunteers to use credit toward the cost of webinars Provides volunteers with 2 free webinar passes each year Has free webinar passes as incentives and prizes that can be used toward the program (keep an eye on the list-serve and LinkedIn group)

23 REgistration Registration is open until (first of) 20 spots are filled or program start date STUDENTS MAY START THE WEBINARS UPON REGISTRATION (even before the official program start date) CRM 4 - Oct 1, 2017
