5 QTLS benefits QTLS status is recognised in law as having parity with QTS for teaching in schools Career progression: QTLS status demonstrates your commitment, skills and knowledge to employers It is recognition of your status as a professional teacher or trainer Valuable CPD that builds confidence and enhances your skills An opportunity to plan and record your CPD activity, working collaboratively with your mentor and peers throughout the process A redesigned forward looking process, enabling you to demonstrate progression and impact on your practice Members with QTLS can use these initials as a designation Career progression - your QTLS status demonstrates your commitment, skills and knowledge to employers Recognition of your status as a professional teacher or trainer Valuable continuing professional development (CPD) that builds confidence and enhances your skills A redesigned, forward-looking professional formation process with more opportunities to demonstrate your progression A unique opportunity to plan and record your CPD activity, drawing on relevant educational theory and research and working collaboratively with others On-going valuable support from your mentor right from the start of the process QTLS status is recognised in law as equal to QTS for teaching in schools Members with QTLS can use the initials as a designation and display a QTLS digital pin on their online profiles. 8 What is professional formation?
A post-qualification CPD opportunity that enables you to demonstrate your continued: ability to use effectively the skills and knowledge acquired whilst training to be a teacher or trainer application of the professional standards required of a teacher or trainer A combination of narrative and supporting evidence that highlights developments in your practice An opportunity to critically reflect on your teaching or training in order to improve your practice. Takes a minimum of 4 months to complete

9 Stages of Professional Formation
Timescales: 3 cycles in the year: Spring, Summer and Winter Next registration window opens on 1 September, closing on 31 October, with a deadline of 28 February 2017 Cost: £485 (initial deposit of £100)

10 Key changes from 1 September
We are introducing changes to improve QTLS It will be a richer developmental experience, enabling you to plan and record your continuing professional development It will enable you to critically reflect and show the impact on your teaching and your learners, linking theory and practice It will enable you to work collaboratively with colleagues

11 Eligibility Evidence of an endorsed ITE qualification at Level 5, eg DET, PGCE Recently qualified teachers need to have achieved their ITE qualification for at least six months before submitting their completed workbooks for review Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or above Teaching learners aged 14+ Declaration of personal suitability (fitness to practise) A supporter or mentor who you can support you throughout the process

15 The review and moderation process
All reviewers have achieved QTLS It is an online process in REfLECT Meetings are held to review and resolve queries Tight timescales in working towards final evaluation meeting so that each review is completed within one month Rigorous but flexible process, resulting in over 90% achievement rates Opportunity to reapply

16 What makes a good application?
Strong evidence of: Critical reflection - how the applicant has reflected on feedback from a range of sources to improve practice Application of theory to practice Impact on applicant’s practice, the outcomes of their learners and their organisation Reference to the 2014 professional standards

17 Steps for applying for QTLS
Check your eligibility Choose your registration window and register, paying an initial deposit of £100 Decide on who will be your supporter Complete your on-line workbook, using the PF Planner and Technical Guide for support Send your completed workbook to us by the deadline date, paying the final balance of fees
