Faculty Handbook Section 5.2.3.3 Qualifications for Academic Rank: Professor recognized by his/her professional peers within the university, as well as nationally and/or internationally, for the quality of the contribution to his /her discipline.

Faculty Handbook Section 5.2.3.3 Candidate must demonstrate: National distinction in scholarship, as evident in candidate's wide recognition and outstanding contributions to the field or profession Effectiveness in areas of position responsibilities Significant institutional service Contributions of appropriate magnitude and quality and likelihood of sustained contributions to field, profession, university

Faculty Handbook Section 5.2.3.3 No set time-line The faculty member’s entire academic career must be considered in the evaluation. A recommendation for promotion to professor also must be based upon an assessment of the record, since the last promotion, regardless of the institution that granted the promotion.

Time in Rank? The average length of time spent in rank as an Associate Professor in CALS: 6.5 years (range 3 – 26 years)

Number of refereed publications? Number of refereed journal publications completed by candidates for Full Professor range: 10 – 35

Portion of PRS devoted to research? range: 25% to 90% Faculty with higher levels of teaching and/or extension responsibility are promoted as frequently as those with higher levels of research responsibility
