A Strength Based Borough 30 March 2019 Jayne Ivory, Director Children’s Services

Children’s Services Vision Children in Blackburn with Darwen will grow to have a happy, healthy life and experience success, and overcome challenges. To achieve this we will work in our communities, with our partners and our children, young people and their families to ensure that children get the right help at the right time by building on their strengths and the strengths of their family.

The challenges we share Rising Demand Pressurised Budgets Reduced Resources Our Context Uncertainty of National Context

Opportunities BwD focus on partnership Our size, scale and responsiveness Political and Leadership Commitment An understanding of what good looks like

What Works in Children’s Services A family service – a system which focuses on improving outcomes for the child in the context of their family setting. A social work led multi-disciplinary service from the front door through to specialist services. A service where social workers are supported to offer meaningful interventions based on an underpinning methodology of resilience. A service where good practice is free to flourish. A service where children are supported by and within their own family/community wherever possible.

Key Drivers for Strength Based Approaches You, Allied professionals and CPD Resources Systems that support practice Creativity and Innovation Communication Practice Leaders across our system and services

Importance of Leadership and Governance How are we ensuring that our schools are improving outcomes for our children and young people? How inclusive are our schools? How do you and I know that our schools, whatever their status are supporting progress, attendance and attainment?

How Listening to the voices of children and young people Working with families Positively challenge ourselves and each other on whether we are making a difference

Delivering Our Vision Inspiring teaching and teachers as a key driver of social mobility Working together to deliver sustainable and effective support for our children in the Borough Ensuring that our children and young people get the best start and can help to support our BwD ambition for greater opportunities and growth for their future

Feedback How can we achieve this vision together? What can you do to deliver improved educational outcomes as a governor? What support and challenge do you need for the LA to ensure that you can fulfil your role?
