2 Children’s Partnership Board The Board brings partners together in a common strategy through the Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP)Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP) produce, and ensure delivery of, its Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP) which will improve outcomes for all children and young people and support their families and carers. It also provides strategic leadership across the entire Children and Young Peoples Partnership arrangements. Chaired by Walsall’s Director of Children’s Services (DCS) 2

3 Children’s Partnership Board To develop and deliver an agreed strategy through the engagement of all partners to improve wellbeing and achievement for all Children This includes a range of provisions, an example is the Children’s Centre and supporting process. 3

4 Walsall Safeguarding Children’s Board (WSCB) A partnership board to agree how relevant organisations co-operate to safeguard and promote welfare of CYP and ensure the effectiveness of what they do WSCB planning fits clearly within the priorities set out in CYPP WSCB is separate to and not a subgroup of the Children’s Partnership Board 4

6 Children and Young People’s Plan Our vision We believe that all children and young people in Walsall have the right to be healthy, happy and safe, to be loved, valued and respected and to have high aspirations for a successful future Values We respect all children, young people and their families – by listening carefully to their views and acting on them wherever possible. We are open and trustworthy – by making decisions transparently, involving others and doing what we say we will. We believe in the potential of all children – by doing all we can to support their development and talents. We are caring and responsible – by acting as good corporate parents and going the ‘extra mile’ in our supportive approaches to all children. We will protect vulnerable children and young people – by taking firm urgent action when needed, sharing information and not tolerating oppressive behaviour. We engage with children and young people, helping to empower them through supporting their aspirations and giving them responsibility. We celebrate and support cultural diversity and children’s sense of identity. 6

8 Children and Young People’s Priorities The challenges facing us in improving outcomes for children and young people are great; this provides an opportunity for us to focus on ‘what matters most’ We have 5 key drivers: –Keeping children and young people safe and positively engaged in their communities –Providing preventative and early support – the right support at the right time in the right place –Achievement is everything - to ensure a successful progression to adulthood –Creating an environment to support schools make the best choices to drive up achievement –Access to a adaptable and flexible services provided by a range of providers offering choice and value for money 8

9 Children and Young People’s Priorities Our two key priorities are; –Improving attainment – by supporting school improvement –Reducing the need for children to be looked after by early intervention and support And Our partnership priorities (8) –Reduce Infant Mortality –Reduce Obesity –Increase Young Offenders ETE (education, train & employ) –Increase Young people participating in Positive activities –Increase perception of parents taking responsibility –Care leaver suitable accommodation –Increase Childcare take-up low income families –Reduce Child Poverty 9

10 Three Year Inspection – 2010 The inspection will focus on Safeguarding and Looked After Children. It is undertaken every 3 years It will follow this years Unannounced, Adoption and Fostering inspections It provides us with a final judgement, outstanding, good, adequate or inadequate It will judge the Walsall Children’s partnership on 4 main areas: –Overall effectiveness –Leadership and management –Quality of provision –Impacts – for children and young people. 10
