2 Securing Headship 33 aspiring headteachers have completed this regional leadership development programme. Over half have secured their first headship. Many continue to meet their mentor and peers.

3 Collaborative leadership programmes
Northamptonshire All Teaching Schools presented a single coherent offer to the county’s schools. This included programmes for NQTs through to New Headteachers.

4 Fastest improving phonics outcomes
Derby A Phonics improvement programme organised by a Derby Teaching School led to an average phonics gain of 27% for the participating schools.

5 Keeping good company A Teaching School rep from each LA mini-region is on the board of the East Midlands Teaching School company. This created a regional opportunity to commission and be commissioned

6 Holding each other to account
Leicestershire and Lincolnshire Teaching Schools are piloting a Peer Review process. As it rolls out, this scheme will quality assure the work of Teaching Schools and peers will hold each other to account.

7 County-wide partnership
Derbyshire Education Improvement Partnership Board now has all partners on board, to: Review performance data and share intelligence Identify under performing and ‘at risk’ schools and match system leaders to them Share examples of good practice

8 Improving LAC outcomes in Corby
Northamptonshire Teaching Schools were commissioned to work with teachers, support staff, foster carers and their families, and social workers to improve the provision, support and outcomes for Looked After Children.

9 Supporting new arrivals into education
Leicester The Leicester Education Strategic Partnership commissioned a highly effective EAL Leadership Programme that has now been completed by over half of the cities schools. All schools report improving progress and better outcomes for their newly-arrived bilingual pupils.

10 Regional Education Summit

11 Developing research-informed practice
Lincolnshire Kyra Research School sets up and facilitates professional learning communities that introduce schools to research. One particular project, ‘Making Best Use of Teaching Assistants’ is having major impact.

12 Initial Teacher Training collaboration
Across much of the region, ‘Teach’ ITT partnerships are becoming well established to: strengthen recruitment share effective practice contribute to an area-based approach

13 Leading SLE training and development
Leicester Leading, on behalf of the region, the roll out of training for Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)

14 Collaborating with the Maths Hub
Derby A blended programme of Maths Improvement was commissioned by Derby primary schools through the Maths Hub. SLEs from several Teaching School Alliances contributed to the programme

15 Starting on the leadership pathway
Almost 150 recently qualified teachers (in their first 5 years of teaching) have completed Pathways this year. Pathways invests in leadership development to inspire leaders for our region’s schools.

16 Regional communication
Every Teaching School, all system leaders and key partners receive weekly eNews bulletins. The EMTSA website provides a portal for the work of Teaching Schools.

17 Growing Governor support
Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire A pilot to develop Local Leaders of Governance is creating a larger pool of support for governors. Some LLGs will eventually become NLGs.

18 Mobilising evidence, workforce and impact
Lincolnshire The Mobilise Project offers schools opportunities to engage with projects on: Digital feedback in Maths Cognitive theory Marking and feedback Independent innovation bid

19 Training more system leaders
Training Local Leaders of Education (LLEs) has been led by Teaching Schools in Nottingham and Derby. This has now been rolled out across the region to train and develop more system leaders.

20 Headeachers’ strategic commissioning group
The primary heads in Derby formed a strategic partnership to identify city-wide priorities and commission local Teaching Schools. This partnership is evolving to become the Derby Opportunity Area Primary Board.

21 Regional co-ordination
Kate McKenna fulfils the role of Regional Strategy Co-ordinator. This role is recognised as vital by EMTSA and TSC colleagues. Kate is supported by the SDSA as regional Business Support Partner

22 Today’s conference The 3rd regional conference
Over 200 system leaders attending Sharing practice and providing inspiration Contributing to the development of a school- led improvement system to improve outcomes for young people.

23 Driving school improvement
Leicestershire and Lincolnshire Teaching Schools are increasingly being commissioned to lead school improvement. The partnership work between Teaching Schools in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire to support all schools is now very well established.

24 Leading the Targeted Support Activity
Nottinghamshire has led NCTL’s Targeted Support Fund activity on behalf of the region. To date over 500 recently qualified teachers have been supported on their career journey towards middle leadership and over 75 aspiring heads have been supported to achieve a first headship.

25 Stepping up to share data and intelligence
In recent bids for School-to-School Support and Strategic School Improvement Funding all partners stepped up to work together. The sharing of data, information and local intelligence about schools is now common practice between all partners.

26 Developing Stronger Governance
The region’s Teaching Schools now lead in the deployment, co-ordination and development of National Leaders of Governance (NLGs). A Regional NLG Champion, Jane Lewis will work with a group of Area-Based NLG Co-ordinators.

27 Women leading in education
Nottingham colleagues lead a regional network and coaching support for women to develop their leadership. Visit

28 Engaging all schools in a school-led system
Nottinghamshire Teaching Schools are working together to ensure that every school is engaged in their school-led system. They are using case studies to demonstrate impact and targeted communications with any remaining unattached schools.

29 Breaking through the barriers to boys’ achievement
Rutland teaching schools have been working with Gary Wilson to address the underperformance of boys from EYFS to KS4. Most schools in Rutland have developed a strategy to address the barriers to boys’ achievement
