The Group kundi

What defines a group? Are we a group? What keeps the group together? Why do people want to be in a group? Can you tell in Which groups are you a member of? Groups are good :)

Group Definition  A number of people who are connected by some shared activity, interest, or quality. דוגמאות

Different kinds of groups Educational: teacher-students Social: friends, family, community Peer Groups: workers, teachers More…? דוגמאות

Group Process What happens in groups doesn’t stay the same over time. What changes? Relationships in the group. Roles that people play in the group. Feelings that people have toward the group and the group leader. Studies have shown that most groups go through a similar process.

Stages of Group Process First Stage: Forming What happens when we join a new group of people? Getting used to the group Getting to know each other: names, where we come from, what we do, how we are in the group. What are our expectations from the group? What do we first notice about people in a new group?

Stages of Group Process Second stage: Storming People begin taking on different roles in the group There can be a hierarchy: leaders, followers Small groups form There can be conflict: Between people, Between members of the group and the facilitator Between small groups

Second stage: Storming People test what is their influence on the group Talking about what is happening helps everyone feel that the group is a safe place.

Stages of Group Process Third stage- Norming Members of the group start to work together. There is trust in the group. Members of the group participate more.

Third stage: Norming Members of the group accept each other. There is a feeling of being a team. Members help each other. The group is more independent and relies less on the leader. Examples of working together

Stages of Group Process The fourth stage: Preforming- Realization (utambuzi) This is the level where the team is a high– performance team. They can be given new projects and tasks and accomplish them successfully. It is possible the group will fall back into the “storming” phase. nice
