Bruce W. Tuckman constructed the Group Development Model in 1965. The model involved 4 stages namely forming, storming, norming, and performing.

6 Tuckman’s Group Development Model
Forming: team members first come together. They are polite and observes the other members of the team. They learn about the project they will be working on, discuss the project's objectives/goals and start to think about what role they will play on the project team.

7 Tuckman’s Group Development Model
Storming: the team becomes more established, it's members become more vocal. They compete with each other, keeping their own agendas to the forefront.

8 Tuckman’s Group Development Model
Norming: Eventually a common goal is agreed, and a leader is chosen if this is not already decided. The roles of each team member are chosen, and they take on tasks that suit their skills and experience.

9 Tuckman’s Group Development Model
Performing: Goals are being met through good working practices and good working relationships. Team members are motivated and the leadership is effective.

10 Tuckman & Jensen’s 5 Stage Model
In 1977 Tuckman and Mary Ann Jensen proposed an update to the model, again based on a literature review. Tuckman and Jensen called this stage adjourning.

11 Tuckman & Jensen’s 5 Stage Model
Adjourning: involves completing the task and breaking up the team. Others have called this stage mourning, since former group members often experience loss—especially when a group is dissolved suddenly or with little planning.
