What is Title I? 1965 President Lyndon B. Johnson enacted the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). First and largest comprehensive federal education law that provided substantial funds for Pre K-12 education. As of December 2015, President Barak Obama signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act (states role in holding schools accountable for student outcome)

Cross Elementary School Motto: “I Believe in myself…I can. Located in a rural community in Berkeley County on Highway 6 not far from Lake Marion Student population Approximately 393 (Headstart through Grade Six) Serving Areas Cross, Pineville, Pinopolis, Sandridge, Ridgeville CES is one of twenty-one Title I school-wide sites in Berkeley County Title I funds are allocated to elementary schools with a free/reduced population of 75% or greater (CES poverty index = 97.28%)

What does Title I look like at CES? Allocation for CES = $249,600 Provide instructional materials in ELA and Math to support the Enhanced Balance Literacy program in Grades K – 6th Supplement the ELA and Math curriculum by providing access to online reading and math programs through software site licenses (Achieve3000, Starfall, etc.) Integrate technology into classroom instruction with the use of technology materials, supplies, and equipment (ex. Grades K-2 have classroom access to technology 1:1) Provide an Afterschool Tutorial Program (Grades K-6) Support ongoing staff development for teachers and administrators Student Recognitions

What does Title I look like at CES? Employ a paraprofessional to provide academic assistance with technology into classroom instruction Employ Title I Facilitator to coordinate school improvement efforts to ensure effective staff development, parenting, coaching, compliance concerns, and Title I assurances in grades K- 6th Provide and equip (resources) Family Resource Center (Room 9) Implement Family Nights (Math and ELA) Implement a Motheread/Fatheread Program Implement a Volunteer Program

Family Involvement Policy & Title I School-Parent Compact The Title I Plan involvement section of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires each Title I school develop a written parent policy that describes the means for carrying out the requirements of Section 1118. The school must ensure that information related are to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities are sent to the parents in a language that parents can understand. written agreement between the school and the parents of children participating in Title I that outlines the activities that the parents, school staff, and students will undertake to build and develop a partnership to help the children achieve to the State’s high academic standards Draft: Sent in August Final: will be sent in September
