1 Title I Parent Information Session Applegate School Laura Donovan School

2 No Child Left Behind The No Child Left behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 was signed into law on January 8, 2002 by President Bush. The Act represents the President's education reform plan and contains the most sweeping changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since it was enacted in 1965. NCLB changes the federal government's role in K-12 education by focusing on school success as measured by student achievement. The Act also contains the President's four basic education reform principles: » stronger accountability for results, » increased flexibility and local control, » expanded options for parents, and » an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.

3 Title I Eligibility Once a district receives the Title I award, they must allocate the funds to the most needy schools in the district, that is the schools with the largest proportion of economically disadvantaged. 35 percent or more of their enrolled students are identified meeting the criteria of economically disadvantaged. The percent of children identified in the school is equal to or greater than the percent of poverty district wide.

9 Curriculum Overview Elementary Math: Investigations/Scott Foresman Reading: Action Reading, Reading Street whole group instruction, guided reading instruction Writing: Writer’s Workshop with units of study in narrative, persuasive, expository writing Science and Social Studies: integrated with reading and aligned to the standards
