Presentation transcript:

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES Ms. Fowler Mathematics ABL2E

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this presentation is to describe expectations for behavior, classroom procedures, grading and methods of communication both within and outside of class.

Classroom Expectations Follow all school rules (Student Handbook). Be in dress code No food or drink (water bottles are allowed) No cell phone/headphone use in class unless it’s for a classroom activity Follow all classroom rules. Do not ask for or use a hall pass during the first or last 15 minutes of class. Work bell to bell.

CLASS RULES 1. Come to class prepared. 2. Show respect for yourself, others and property. 3. Always give your best effort. 4. No food or drink (water bottles are allowed). 5. No cell phones/head phones during class unless for approved activity.

Consequences You do not have the right to interfere with or in any way limit the learning of others. If you break class or school rules or disrupt class, (depending on the severity) I will give one warning. If the behavior continues, then consequences will occur which could include counseling, parent contact and/or classroom removal by administration. See student handbook for guidelines. NOTE: After the first warning, cell phones will be collected and turned into the office as per school rules.

General Classroom Procedures Please bring to class daily: A pencil. I prefer not to use pens for math work. A folder or notebook to keep your homework in. Raise your hand if you have a question, wish to speak or need something. I will also raise my hand and wait to get your attention. Use the hall passes given to you for bathroom etc. (not the first or last 15 minutes of class).

General Classroom Procedures (cont.) In the event of an emergency/lockdown/fire drill, follow my directions. Use evacuation routes and procedures. When a guest enters the room (speaker, administrators for walk-throughs, other students, etc.), continue to work uninterrupted.

What To Do Before Class Enter the classroom quietly. Prepare to begin work when the bell rings. Pick up spiral and any returned work from your folder. Take assigned calculator. Sharpen pencil. Sit in your assigned seat . Check daily work on the board so you know what we will be working on.

During Class Generally, papers will be distributed or collected at the end of each row. Quizzes and tests will be collected all at once. If you finish an assignment early and want to turn it in during class, put it the basket near the student folders. If you need to get out of your seat during class, do so quietly, and preferably, not when instruction is occurring. Raise your hand if you have a question, are uncertain or confused. Ask for help.

During Class (cont) If you have completed your work early, let me know and I am happy to have you work on something else or read. If you are absent, check my webpage for assignments. Any handouts that you missed will be in your student folder. If you fall behind or need extra help, sign up for F.I.T., come during tutoring hours, or make an appointment. You are responsible for all assignments. I accept missing work next class period without deduction and late work (deduct 5 pts/day) Make up quizzes/tests should be done during F.I.T.

Group Work I will assign and form groups. When instructed to form a group, move desks quietly. Group work requires that everyone participate. Treat all members respectfully, even when you disagree. Keep the volume of conversations low so as not to disrupt others.

Grading See class syllabus for breakdown of how grades are determined.

After Class I dismiss the class and not the bell. Please do not line up by the door. I will give a five minute warning to clean up/return calculators, and/or turn in work. Exit the room quietly.

Communication Outside of Class If you are uncertain/confused/concerned – call and leave a message, or use email. Refer to your syllabus for contact information.

In Conclusion I believe we are going to have a great class. Smile often. Be kind to others. Ask for help. I believe in you and want you to be successful.
