Wellness

What is wellness? Physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, and environmental health

Physical Health The condition of your body.

Physical Health A person who is physically healthy: Exercises regularly Eats nutritiously Gets regular physical check-ups Avoids the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other illicit drugs

Emotional Health The way you recognize and deal with feelings.

Emotional Health A person who is emotionally healthy: Keeps a positive attitude Is sensitive to their own feelings and the feelings of others Learns to cope with stress Is realistic about expectations and time Takes responsibility for their own behavior Deals with personal issues realistically Views challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles Functions independently but knows when to ask for help

Mental Health How you deal with life’s demands. Stress School/work Learning new things

Mental Health A person who is mentally healthy: Learns because they want to – not because they are told to. Learns through varied experiences – reading, writing, sharing and exploration Observes what is around them Listens Finds applications for material learned in the classroom Stays current with world affairs/news Questions Exposes them self to new experiences (e.g. arts, theater)

Spiritual Health Your beliefs, values, and morals. A sense of purpose and meaning in life.

Spiritual Health A spiritually health person: Is open to different cultures and religions Gives their time to volunteer or participate in community service activities Spends time defining personal values and ethics and makes decisions that complement them Spends time alone in personal reflection Participates in spiritual activities Participates in activities that protect the environment Cares about the welfare of others

Environmental Health The positive perception of the environment one works and lives in.
