Managing Stress 8-10 hours sleep Physically active 20 min/day - 3 days/week Healthy breakfast Variety of nutritious foods Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs Maintain positive relationships Practice safe behaviors to prevent injuries Maintain healthy weight Abstain from sexual activity before marriage

5 Physical Health How well your body functions Physical Health = More energy Physical Health = Fights diseases Examples: Sleep, hygiene, dental health, nutrition, regular check-ups.

6 Mental / Emotional Health Feelings about yourself (self-esteem)-How well you meet the demands of daily life. YYour feelings about YOURSELF, in touch with their feelings and can express them appropriately, CCommunication with others DDeal with frustrations of life without being overwhelmed. RRespect for YOURSELF and others AAvoid negative thoughts and are looking to Think in a positive manner.

Culture gives a sense of identity. - Why would understanding different cultures be important to our health? 4.Attitude: the way you view a situation *** YOU control this*** 5.Behavior: Most control over! the way you act Mannerism Action you take, decisions you make.

12 Types of Risks Reasonable Risk: -A risk that would be within the normal range of minor risks that most people take often, sometimes every day. Just crossing the street exposes us to a small degree of risk because a car might hit us, but it's a pretty reasonable degree of risk and not excessive. However, jumping out of a plane without a parachute would not be a reasonable risk

13 Types of Risk Cumulative Risk: The consequences of risk add up over time. These related risks increase in effect with each added risk. - Smoking one cigarette, eating one high fat meal. - The negative effects accumulate and lead to serious health consequences.
