War Affects the World

Global Conflict By attacking the Dardanelles, Constantinople could be conquered. The British helped the Arab nationalists gain control of Baghdad, Jerusalem & Damascus

Global Conflict European colonies sent troops to help fight in the war Germany began unrestricted submarine warfare because the British were using a naval blockade to keep food and supplies from entering the country The US was upset about the attack on the Lusitania because 1,200 civilians died, including 128 US Citizens.

US Enters In 1917 German U-boats sank 3 American ships US intercepted the Zimmerman Note

Home Front WWI became known as “The Great War” Total war means that countries devoted all their resources to the war effort Rationing means that goods were in short supply so the government allowed people to buy only small amounts of those items Propaganda – one-sided information designed to persuade the public

Allies Win Czar Nicholas abdicated his throne because his government and country were on the brink of a revolution Russian Communist leader Vladimir Lenin signed a truce with Germany

Allies Win America sent 2 million troops which helped to end the stalemate Armistice – an agreement to stop fighting WWI came to an end on November 11, 1918.
