Dual Credit Information Session 2019-2020

Dual Credit Courses Dual Credit courses are college courses offered to BCHS students from various Kentucky colleges & universities. They are open to students in 11th and 12th grade & are offered at REDUCED rates. Scholarships are also available!!! Successful completion of these courses grants high school & college credit. DC courses go on the student’s BCHS transcript & their permanent college transcript. *These are college courses and thus are the sole responsibility of the student! Dual Credit Courses are worth 1 credit each and are weighted!

Dual Credit Courses Available DC courses offered on the BCHS Campus, taught by our teachers include: College Algebra English 101 & 102 German 2, 3 & 4 Ag – Vet Science – Intro to Pre Vet Science and Animal Science Medical Terminology Medicaid Nurse Aid Students may also take a variety of dual credit courses online during the school day!

Special Consideration If you plan on taking the AP LANGUAGE exam AND you PASS, you will get credit for English 101 (see website of school you intend to attend). You will only need English 102 if the above is the case. As scores will not be returned until July, students will have the opportunity to modify this portion of their schedule after receiving AP language scores.  

AG dual credit – Vet Science VET SCIENCE is comprised of two online dual credit courses through Murray State – AGR 182 and AGR 100 – Intro to Pre Vet Science and Animal Science Racer Academy requires: Applicants must be a high school junior or senior Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or rank in top half of class.

Harrison County Area Technical Center Many of the courses at the Harrison county ATC are offered for college credit!

Harrison County Technical Center Harrison County Area Technology Center is open to students in grades 10-12. Students attend Harrison County Area Technology Center approximately half of the school day and BCHS the other half, for both semesters. Each pathway at the Harrison County Area Technology Center courses also offer colleges credits! Attendance is critical at the Area Technology Center. If you plan on enrolling you must attend on a daily basis, or run the risk of losing your credit for the courses you are taking.

Harrison County Technical Center Career major pathways offered to BCHS students include: Business Management Carpentry Technology Health Sciences – Held at Bourbon County High School Machinist Technician Maintenance Mechanic Network Administration Web Development Welding Technology

Requesting BCHS Dual Credit Courses Courses offered at BCHS - Check the appropriate space on your Schedule Request Form Online Courses - circle at the bottom of the Schedule Request Form We will check to make sure you have the appropriate scores for any class you have chosen with benchmarks needed before school starts. If the scores are not met your schedule will be changed to the appropriate subject course.

Scheduling Dual Credit Courses Students will have one or two periods a day to work on the online courses in the BCHS computer lab. Seniors are able to be off campus but ONLY for periods 1 and/or 7!! How many periods scheduled is dependent upon how many they would like to take. Students must take one course each semester in each period and have at least 7 credits each year!!

Scheduling Dual Credit Courses for Seniors SENIORS only may come in late or leave early in order to work on their courses at home or at the public library They must complete 7 credits their senior year Any student who does not pass their dual credit course(s) will have to return to the BCHS computer lab for the entire day Parents must sign a permission form for students to be off campus

Transferring Dual Credit Courses Courses will transfer to all State colleges in Kentucky Courses may transfer to private KY colleges and out of state schools Students are encouraged to check the college they plan on attending's website!!! Courses may not transfer exactly as they are taken University of Kentucky is weird!

Dual Credit Tuition All dual credit courses cost approximately $56 per credit hour. Most courses are 3 credit hours, which equals roughly $165 per course. Cost usually increases a bit every year! This does not include the cost of books or other required materials.

Paying for Dual Credit Courses KY Dual Credit Scholarship - Available To High School SENIORS – ONLY COVERS THE COST OF TUITION!!! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF BOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS NEEDED FOR YOUR COURSE(S)! Dependent upon funding allotment granted by the state of Kentucky Up to 6 credit hours per academic year Parents PAY THE COLLEGE DIRECTLY FOR REMAINING BALANCE

Paying for Dual Credit Courses Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship program for high school students A high school student must: Be a Kentucky resident Be enrolled in a Kentucky high school Not be eligible for, or have exhausted eligibility for, the Dual Credit Scholarship program Be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment in, an approved dual credit course at an eligible institution Approved dual credit courses for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship are limited to Career and Technical Education coursework that is in a career pathway approved by the Kentucky Department of Education as leading to an industry‐recognized credential
