2. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Grades for both Cornerstone and Running Start become part of student’s permanent record
Challenging to take classes simultaneously at the high school and at CWU
CWU’s academic calendar is different from CERHS
One 5 credit course at CWU will require approximately 10 hours of study time per week
Material covered in one quarter at CWU is equal to the amount of material covered in a full year of high school
Cornerstone courses allow 18 weeks to do work completed in 10 weeks at CWU

3. CORNERSTONE/College in the High School @ CERHS CAMPUS
Designed to offer highly capable students the opportunity to take rigorous college courses while in high school. Students can earn college credit.
Held at CERHS during regular school periods.
Taught by qualified high school instructors who have been approved as CWU adjunct faculty.
College in the High School is paid by grant for 2 classes per school year (if we get the grant again in )
Cornerstone tuition is paid by family
60% refund when student earn B- or higher

* Students registering for math or English classes, must meet an entrance standard on the ACT, SAT or Accuplacer test. Course registration and testing information is generally handled by the classroom teacher.

5. RUNNING START @ CWU CAMPUS
The Running Start Program is intended to provide students a program option consisting of attendance at certain institutions of higher education and the simultaneous earning of high school and college/university credit.
The student is responsible for transportation, parking, books and fees. Tuition is paid with FTE funds.

6. PARENTS’ ROLE
Communicate honestly with student to make sure that this is a good fit
Review CERHS Running Start Agreement
Be informed about necessary high school requirements
Ensure that the student is in contact with high school counselor in order to track progress toward graduation
Understand the differences between high school and college in order to help the student with the transition:
Faculty do not speak to parents - only to students
Students are responsible for monitoring their progress in courses
Registration is contingent upon meeting with Running Start Advisor

7. RUNNING START ADMISSION
Applicants must be a junior or senior enrolled through a public high school.
Applicants with a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA are admissible without standardized test scores. However, all students are encouraged to submit SAT, ACT or ACT Residual* test scores which will be used to determine placement into appropriate Math and English courses. Students who do not submit SAT or ACT test scores will be required to take the Accuplacer test upon admission.
Applicants who do not have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.4 must also submit SAT, ACT, or Act Residual test scores for admission consideration. Students that have an Admissions Index of 28 or greater will be admitted to the Running Start program. The Admissions Index is a probability of success indicator that takes into account high school GPA and standardized test scores. Please see the Admission Index Calculator page for more information. 
*ACT Residual scores are only applicable to CWU. They cannot be transferred to any other college. For more information:

The culminating project will be presented during the senior year and will be scored by a panel of judges. It is recommended that students take CWP during spring at CERHS. If they are unable to attend, students will be responsible for completing the project independently and presenting at CERHS during senior project presentations.
