2. What is Dual Credit?
According to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Dual Credit is a process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. While dual credit courses are often taught on the secondary school campus to high school students only, a high school student can also take a course on the college campus and receive both high school and college credit.

3. Who should take Dual Credit?
Students who…
Are highly motivated and willing to work hard
Do NOT procrastinate
Are determined to graduate with college credits
Are okay with Pre-AP weighted English
Did not make a 3, 4, or 5 on junior year AP English exam (talk to your HS counselor)

4. How to Enroll?
Notify your high school counselor of your interest in participating.
Students with a 80 or higher GPA are eligible to participate in dual credit courses at BHS.
Apply for admission to Tarrant County College (TCC).
TCC will come to the High School January 25th and 26th from 3:00-5:00PM to help students complete the online application (Apply Texas) and administer the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).
You can sign up for either day at the BHS Counseling Office.
How to Enroll?
1) Notify your High School Counselor and they will pull your official transcript to be submitted to TCC.
2) Apply for admission to TCC. There will be a set time that TCC will come to the High School to help you fill out the online application and administer the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).

5. How to Enroll? Take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment.
The TSI Assessment (TSI-A) is the approved placement test used by educational institutions to assist in determining if a student is prepared for college-level courses and to aid institutions in making course placement decisions.
Students will take the Reading, Writing, and Math portions of the TSI-A.
Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) – Must be viewed before taking the TSI-A (mandated by State of Texas). Takes about 25 minutes.
Potential dual credit students may take the TSI-A at BHS (March 8th or 9th, 1:00-5:00PM) or the TCC Testing Center at no cost (including re-tests).
Students may be exempt based on ACT or SAT scores.
How to Enroll?

7. How to Enroll?
Immediately following the TSI-A, students will receive results to go over with their counselor to determine if they meet program requirements to participate.
All re-tests will take place at the TCC NE Campus Testing Center.
Students exempt from the TSI-A based on ACT/SAT test scores must have an official copy of their scores sent directly (from ACT or College Board) to the TCC NE Campus Registrar’s Office.
4) Immediately following the test, the student will receive results to go over with their counselor as to what classes they are eligible for.
5). If the student is exempt based on other official test scores (ACT or SAT) an original and official copy must be submitted to their high school counselor.

8. How to Enroll?
Confirm with High School Counselor which specific course(s) you will be taking. This information will be added to the Dual Credit Enrollment Form, which will be used by TCC for registration.
The TCC NE Dual Credit Coordinator will pick up all paperwork to be processed in the TCC Registrar’s Office. With paperwork on file, TCC will register students for the appropriate course(s).

7) Once the student signs the Early High School Enrollment Form with their counselor, the TCC NE Dual Credit Coordinator will pick up the completed packet to get the students enrolled in the correct course section at their high school.

9. How to Enroll?
Payment: The registration process is complete when students pay for tuition.
This can be done through the student’s TCC WebAdvisor account online or in person at any TCC Business Services Office.
The deadline will be shortly before the course begin.
Payment plans are available. Students should contact Business Services for more information after they have been registered for courses.

10. Deadline for Participation
Students participating in Dual Credit for the academic year, must complete all testing and paper work by:
April 28, 2017

For students wanting to register for fall/spring school year, all testing and paper work should be completed by TCC deadlines.

11. Dual Credit Requirements
Dual Credit students must meet course prerequisite requirements before enrolling in classes.
Students may enroll in up to 15 credit hours per semester.
Students are required to make a TCC grade of “C” or better in ALL Dual Credit courses to continue in the Dual Credit Program.

12. Dual Credit Requirements
Students may not drop a Dual Credit course without permission from the high school counselor. It is the student’s responsibility to notify his/her counselor.
Students must attend class 85% of the time, failure to do so may result in the professor dropping the students from the class.

16. Tuition Costs
$59 per credit hour for Tarrant County residents ($177 per three-hour course).
Grant funds may be available through a reimbursement program.
High school students who have earned 24 college credits or more upon graduation save about $15,000.

After the student has received a Dual Credit schedule from their high school counselor, they can purchase their textbook(s) at any TCCD Campus Follett Bookstore or online at

18. How to be Successful… High School vs. College
