Rules, Consequences, Rewards & Procedures

Rules 1. Have all appropriate materials and supplies at your table and be seated when by the time the bell rings. 2. Respect all people, supplies, equipment and furnishings of Room 159. 3. Adjust your voice level to suit the given activity. 4. Listen and follow all directions the first time they are given. 5. Sit in your assigned seat daily.

Rewards Class: Individual: If no yellows cards given… Daily – Randomly chosen student gets to pick a song to end class Weekly – 10 minutes of Quiet free time on Friday Monthly – Documentary day with use of electronic devices Individual: If no yellow cards given… Weekly – 5%-bonus card; Can be used on any assignment Bi-Weekly – 5-point bonus card; Can be used on any assignment Monthly – Homework pass

Procedures Beginning of Class Bring all needed supplies Science notebook & pencil I will greet you at the door Enter room quietly and orderly Open your Science Notebook and begin the Warm-Up posted on your Warm-Up Half-sheet The Warm-Up Half-sheet will be taped down chronologically on the second page of each unit Complete each Warm-Up on your Warm-Up Half-sheet daily I will check each half-sheet every Friday Start a new half-sheet each Monday Tardy Students Quietly sign and date the tardy sign-in sheet with a reason indicating why tardy 1st tardy = Warning 2nd tardy = Warning 3rd tardy = Level 1 referral with phone call home

Makeup Work It is your responsibility to collect your own makeup work due to absence Hanging folders will contain the current week’s assignments Assignments from the week before and beyond will be in a hanging folders bin Also, assignments can seen and downloaded off of my website www.mrgrothscience2017.weebly.com

Procedure cont’d. During Class Movement through the class Cell phones Keep this to a minimum To get supplies, walk to the back of the class and walk around Cell phones Not allowed!!! If seen, I’ll take the phone and place in the phone basket; returned at the end of class, if no fuss given If student puts up a fight, phone will be returned at the end of the day

Going to the restroom Getting students attention Will only be allowed during work times During direct instruction, wait until explanation is over to ask Getting students attention Will hear “I need everyone’s attention” “High 5” hand signal For every second I count past 5, that’s how many seconds you’ll be held after the bell rang Handing in work Turn-in to the appropriate drawer located on my desk Collecting work Pass down the rows

Students who don’t have a pencil Pencil sharpener Can borrow pencils Must return by the end of the class period Can use a 5 point bonus card to “buy” a pencil Pencil sharpener Pencils should be sharpened before class If a pencil breaks during instruction, the student may borrow a pre-sharpened pencil for the remainder of the class or return the pencil and sharpen their own pencil after instruction is over Food in the classroom No food, gum or liquid other than water allowed within the classroom If the food is given as a reward, the food may be eaten during the class

The teacher dismisses the class, NOT the bell!!! Procedure Ending Class I will complete a quick walk-through of the class I will dismiss by columns Students must be seated and quiet to leave Their immediate area must also be picked up The teacher dismisses the class, NOT the bell!!!

Procedure Late Work Redoing Work/Tests Late work will be accepted up to the end of that specific unit Redoing Work/Tests Student will be allowed to redo any assignment Student will receive full credit for redone homework and classwork Student will only receive half credit for any redone assessment

Remind An online application that allows for me to send periodic reminders to both parents and students. I will be using this program throughout the year to remind students and inform parents of upcoming assessments and project due dates.
