¡Bienvenidos a La Clase De Español 1a!

El perfil de Estudiante (Student profile): Take out a sheet of paper and answer the following: First name, last name: Nickname: Birthplace: Birthday: Languages I speak: My best quality: Favorite vacation place: Favorite food: Favorite sport: Reason for learning Spanish: Future job: Where I’d love to live: Weekend activities: Something I’m proud of: Something I want my teacher to know about me:

This class is equivalent to the first half of high school level 1 Spanish. Students who complete this class with a strong B and/or A, will be recommended for Spanish 1b as 7th graders. Students who continue with 1b in 7th grade, will then be able to take Spanish 2 in 8th grade. This class is a great start for any new Spanish learner, and intends to provide a solid base of Spanish language and culture for all students.

Guidelines and Procedures A. Tardies Be seated in your seat when the bell rings or you are tardy. Three (3) tardies merits a call home and an office referral, followed by a lowered citizenship grade.

Materials 1. 1 three-ring binder for SPANISH ONLY! Tab 1 Tapas (Daily warm- up activities). Tab 2 Práctica (For class notes and activities). Tab 3 Tarea (for any lose paper assignments or print-outs). Tab 4- Papeles Viejos (any work that has been grades and handed back to you). 2. One spiral notebook or equivalent paper for Práctica.

3. Red pens, Blue or Black ink pens, pencils 4. 1 composition book for chapter vocabulary **Recommended: pocket-size Spanish/English dictionary, and either markers/colored pencils/crayons, glue stick

Tapas & Tarea Your daily warm-up activities (Tapas) are worth 2 points each day. You will turn in them in at the end of the week on Fridays for a possible 10 points. If you miss a day of Tapas because you’re absent, you need to look at the power point on Edlio to make it up. Your homework will be stamped every day that it is due. A student will come around and make sure you’ve completed the entire assignment. If you haven’t, you will not get a stamp. I will check your assignments on Friday to make sure they have all been stamped. If you do a homework late, you can get ½ points by making it up by Friday. Each Monday you will get the homework for the entire week.

If you cannot print an assignment, due to technical problems, you must have a signed parent note in order to obtain full credit. You will not receive credit without a note!

El baño/ El armario You must use a “boleto” to go to the restroom. After asking permission, students must give the boleto to Sra. Palm upon leaving the room. ¿Me permites ir al baño/armario? ”

Notas… (Grades…) Participation: Participation is measured by a point system. Points are assessed daily, and tallied at the end of each week. Students have an opportunity to earn 5 points per day, for a total of 25 point per week. If you forget to bring your materials to class, you will lose a participation point for the day. Students will earn a maximum amount of points by raising their hand to answer/ask questions, staying on task, following classroom and school rules and being respectful of the classroom environment.

Quizzes a) Vocabulary and grammar quizzes are worth from 20-30 points. b) Pop Quizzes are worth 10- 20 points. Etapa (Chapter) Exams are worth 100 points. Projects (Points range from 25-100 points). Classwork is worth anywhere from 2-20 points. “Tapas” will be under the classwork section.
