Anatomical Landmarks of Maxilla

1. Nasal septum (cartilage) 2. Anterior nasal spine 3. Median suture 4. Maxillary nasal crest with the osseous nasal septum 5. Incisive foramen 6. Incisive canal, nasal apertures 7. Borders of the nasal cavity 8. Nasal conchae (superimposition) 9. Frontal bone 10. Maxillary sinus (borders) 11. Nasolacrimal canal 12. Canine fossa and infraorbital margin

A: Nasal septum B: Nasal fossa C: Anterior nasal spine

A: Nasal septum B: Nasal fossa C: Anterior nasal spine D: Nasal concha E: Impacted permanent central incisor F: Cone cut G: Fractured crown H: Priapical radiolucency

The nasolacrimal canals are commonly seen as ovoid radiolucencies (arrows) on maxillary occlusal projections.

The nasolacrimal canal (arrow) is occasionally seen near the apex of the canine in Priapical radiographies.

The superior foramina of the nasopalatine canal (arrows) appear just lateral to the nasal septum and posterior to the anterior nasal spine.

A: Nasal fossa B: Nasolacrimal canal E D A: Nasal fossa B: Nasolacrimal canal C: Maxillary sinus D: Retained root E: Impacted tooth F: Zygomatic process of maxilla

Anatomical landmarks of Mandible

16. Alveolar process, course of the vestibular and lingual compact bone 17. Body of the mandible, course of the vestibular 18. Mental spine 19. Mental foramen 20. Mandibular canal 21. Insertion of the genioglossus muscle, superimposed by the alveolar process 22. Impacted tooth 48

Topographic occlusal radiography of mandible is similar to a priapical radiography.

C A: Mental Ridge B: Genial Tubercle C: Cone cut

A: Mental ridge B: Genial tubercle C: External oblique ridge D: Shadow of tongue

Cross sectional mandibular radiography.
