Counselor Academy Visits CATA Registration Counselor Academy Visits

Important Items Four Year Course Planner - gave out to each student during 2nd block on Wednesday, March 21st Academy Pathway Document per graduating class located on CATA School Counseling Website Registration Presentations located on the CATA School Counseling Website

Required Courses English I, II, III, IV Math I, II, III, 4th Level Math - AFM, Discrete, or Pre-Calculus Earth Science, Biology, and a Physical Science - Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science World History, Civics, American History I, American History II (AP US History counts as American History II) Health/PE World Language - 2 Levels are needed for college entrance Six to Eight Academy Courses Depending on Your Assigned Academy Maximum Potential Four Years = 32 Credits - 4 = 28 Credits

AP Courses Meet Prerequisites Expect rigorous course load as these are college level courses Some AP courses are year long and others are semester Develop effective study habits and time management skills that can be utilized to successfully navigate a college curriculum Earn college credit by earning a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Exam (individual college decision) AP Exams are always in May Biology (Y) Calculus AB (Y) Calculus BC (S) Chemistry (Y) Computer Science (S) Computer Science Principles (S) English Language & Composition (11th Grade) (Y) English Literature & Composition (12th Grade) (Y) Environmental Science (S) Physics 1 (S) Psychology (S) Studio Art - Drawing (S) United States Government (S) United States History (Y)

Career and College Promise Courses (CCP) High school juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in the CCP program Weighted GPA of 3.0 is required Demonstrate College Readiness in English, Reading, & Mathematics - ACT, PreACT, PSAT, or SAT scores can be used Students will be dually enrolled in their high school and at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) Tuition is FREE!!! Majority of these college-level classes are taken at SPCC Most CCP courses are worth 5 quality points (equivalent to AP Courses) Majority CCP courses will transfer to your college or university of choice Semester long courses

Online Courses Online courses are offered through North Carolina Virtual School and Union County Virtual School. These courses are fully independent. Online courses require self-motivation and commitment. Summer Online courses are also available, but please remember that a 90 day course is condensed into a 6 week period. You must be able to give 2 to 3 hours daily to the course. You will register for summer courses during your individual counselor meeting. If a course is offered in the traditional classroom setting, online will not be available.

Registration Timeline Wednesday, March 21st Registration Presentation during Advisory & 2nd Block PowerSchool Registration OPENS (selection courses should be done with parents) Thursday, March 29th PowerSchool Registration Closes at 4:30 pm. Monday, April 9th - Wednesday, April 25th 2nd Block Class Visits with their Assigned Counselor to Review Course Selection All required forms should be submitted with correct signatures Thursday, April 26th & Friday, April 27th Make Up Registration Days

Registration Timeline Students will use the resources received during Advisory and 2nd Block to select courses Students MUST register through PowerSchool before the closing date of Thursday, March 29th at 4:30 pm. Choose 8 courses and 2 alternates Parents should be involved in the course selection process and will be REQUIRED to sign the course selections after the registration meeting. This form is to be returned the next day to the student’s 2nd block teacher. All needed forms must be signed and brought to the scheduled meeting with assigned counselor All resources or documents needed are located on the School Counselor Website under Registration and in C4!!!

Schedule Changes When selecting courses make sure those courses are ones that you REALLY want to take. Schedule changes WILL NOT be honored if the course was selected during registration. This includes one of your 8 courses or 2 alternates. The Master Schedule is created based on the courses that you select at the time of registration.
