Schedules: Credits, Course Requests, and Course Levels Before we get started, let’s review… What is a course request? Do you have a copy of your student’s course requests? Where can you get a copy? What is a course registration form? What is a course request change form?

Credits Credit Definitions Credit Counts “Year-Long Class”: Student attends all year, every other day, earning 1 credit. “Semester-Long Class”: Student attends 1 semester, every other day, earning ½ credit. “4x4 Class”: Student attends all year, every day, earning 2 credits. Credit Counts Students need to earn a total of 24 credits by the end of their senior year. Students will sign up for 8 classes their 9th grade year. Students can bring unlimited high school credits from middle school if they earned a “C” or higher in the class. Students wishing to remove any high school credits carried from middle school, from their transcript, must make that decision by the end of the first semester (January 2018) of their high school year.

Course Requests The Cores (You Choose at least 4*) The Electives (You Choose at least 4) English English 1 CP or Honors If in English 1… move to English 2 Honors Physical Education PE or JROTC, Personal Health Science Biology CP or Honors Computer Business Applications or Digital Technology Math If in Pre-Algebra…move to Algebra 1 CP If in Algebra 1 H…move to Geometry H or *Math 4x4 (Geometry H and Algebra 2 H) If in Geometry…move to Algebra 2 H Languages If in French 2…move to French Conversation and Composition (C/C) If in Spanish 2…move to Spanish C/C If interested in German…German 4x4 (Levels 1 and 2) If interested in French…French 4x4 (Levels 1 and 2) If interested in Spanish…Spanish 1 or Spanish 4x4 ( Levels 1 and 2) Social Studies World Geography CP World History H AP Human Geography Visual and/or Performing Arts Art 1, Band 1, Orchestra 1, Theatre 1, Chorus 1, Dance 1, and/or Music Appreciation (If interested in Art 2/Photography/Ceramics…see Art 1 portfolio criteria) General Electives High School 101 and/or Journalism 1

Course Levels: College Prep, Honors, and Advanced Placement College Prep Prepares students for college-level work by the end of senior year (grade 12). Honors Designed for students exhibiting ABOVE AVERAGE ability in a particular content area. Includes more fast-paced independent reading and work, demands nightly homework, prepares students for college-level beginning junior and senior year (grades 11 and 12). Recommended for students who have earned a B or higher (80+) in previous honors level classes. Advanced Placement Designed for students exhibiting SUPERIOR abilities in a particular content area. AP courses are COLLEGE LEVEL and give students an opportunity to gain the skills and experience colleges recognize. Students can earn college credit by making a qualifying score on the national AP exam. Recommended for students who have earned an A or higher (90+) in previous honors level classes.
