Help Guzzler Save Water Hold a classroom discussion on ways of saving water. Encourage the children to think about ways they can save water at home.  Record their ideas. Then discuss the different scenarios on IWB 14 on how Guzzler could save water. Questions for discussion: Describe what you see in the picture. With what toys is Guzzler playing? Is Guzzler alone in the garden? What kind of day is it? How do you know? What is Guzzler doing? Why is he playing in the pool? What is he doing that is wasting a lot of water? How could he save water and still have fun in the paddling pool? Did he need to fill the paddling pool? Do you have a paddling pool at home? How will you save water next time you use it?

Guzzler is brushing his teeth – with the water running Questions to stimulate discussion: Describe what you see in the picture. Why are the ducks in the bathroom? Can you see Guzzler? (reflection only) What is Guzzler doing? What is he doing that is wasting a lot of water? What should he do immediately to save the water? Using the dishwasher – Guzzler puts in his favourite cup on its own for 90 minutes because it is his favourite cup! Questions for discussion: Describe what you see in the picture. What is Guzzler doing? Why is he washing his mug? What is he doing that is wasting a lot of water? Is it sensible to put the dishwasher on for 90 minutes? Should he wait to switch it on until the dishwasher is full? In the kitchen; do you/ Mum or Dad put on the dishwasher with one cup or do you fill it up? Do you/Mum or Dad put on the washing machine with one jumper in it? If Guzzler needed his mug in a hurry, what could he have done? (wash in the sink) What will Guzzler do next time he needs to wash his mug?

Getting out of the bath Questions for discussion: Describe what you see in the picture. What toys did Guzzler bring into the bath? What is Guzzler doing? Why is he standing on one leg in the bath? Is that a sensible thing to do? Why? What is he doing that is wasting a lot of water? How could he save water and still wash every day? If he really wanted a bath, what could he do next time? Did he need to fill the bath to the top? Do you have a bath at home? How will you save water next time you use it?
